Nigeria:
Lagos - Uber works fine in Lagos, biggest issues is making sure that you have data/coverage on your network (there's a reason that all the locals carry three phones!)
Abuja - Taxify works better

South Africa:
JNB, CT, DUR - Uber is straightforward and inexpensive

Ghana
Accra - Uber is available but somewhat patchy, both in terms of availability and quality when they do turn up (as of May 18)

Kenya
Works great in Nairobi and Mombasa. Not yet available in Nakuru, Eldoret, or Kisumu.

Uganda
Works great in Entebbe and Kampala. But many times in Kampala if you are using a credit card, the driver will cancel your ride within 5 minutes.

Tanzania
Works is Dar-es-salaam

Uber in Africa?

Do you recommend using Uber throughout places like Nairobi? Have anybody heard of Maramoja or Little Cab? Any other possibilities that you one can recommend (through modern technology)?

Uber in Africa?

Africa is big & diverse. You cannot just ask "Uber in Africa?"
Need to be country/city specific.

Since the topic is what it is, I'll add my 2:

Nigeria:
I found Taxify to work better in Abuja.

S.Africa:
Uber worked fine.

Think that this will become increasingly common as a question, so have made a wiki - please feel free to add/amend.

I use Uber in Nairobi and Entebbe/Kampala. Works fine.

You know you can just type in "uber nairobi" and find out if the service is offered and there are usually reviews as well.

No Uber in Ethiopia, but a similar service "RIDE" works quite well, is inexpensive and you can even simply call 8294 if you don't want to use up your data coverage. English speaking drivers are also available on request.

How do you pay? In cash or credit card?

You pay in Cash. Ethiopia is still a very Cash dominant society.

Also, it's only in Addis Ababa as of now
