Benin weather in September - too wet?

Hi!

I'm looking for holiday options for a period in late September (20-28th). Benin has caught my eye. The flights are well timed and priced, i'm just a little worried about the weather as it seems this is in the rainy season.

I'm not planning a massively adventurous trip, a day or two by the beach in Grand Popo, sightseeing in Porto Novo, daytrip to Abomey for the Royal Palaces, the Temple of Python in Ouidah.

Will the rainy season mean transport is impossible, with days best spent inside, or is it more the occasional downpour before the sun comes out? I've been fairly lucky with the rain on most of my "rainy season" trips, with the except of Colombia where there was a lot of flooding.

Any help and advice would be warmly welcomed :)

(The other destination i'm considering is the Lake Van region of Turkey, where the weather looks better, but i'm trying to tick off some new countries!)
