outbreak of plague in Madagascar is getting WORSE, aid group warns
More than 100 have been killed and 1,300 infected with the pneumonic plague since August. The outbreak has led to UK authorities warning Brits off visiting the African wildlife paradise
Not sounding good.

I'd probably pass for now. I like my vacation spots to be a little bit less plaguey than this.

This thread over in Destinations/Africa.

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/afri...y-advicne.html

It's several months old so not applicable if your question is the current plague matter.

Since OMNI is not meant for travel discussions, we're moving this to the Africa forum. Please follow at it's new home.
Thanks.

Just followed up on our trip in the thread SkeptiCallie referenced above!

Three week Madagascar itinerary advice

We had an amazing trip and would highly recommend it to hardy travelers who enjoy roughing it. Actually, it's also very easy to do Madagascar in luxury if you want to spend money and don't mind the whole all-inclusive tour type thing.

The current plague thing is off-putting for sure but from what I've heard, it's being way overblown in the media. If you opt for the luxury route and stay out of cities, on the beach, and use only private transportation you'd probably be fine.
