Ethiopia
 

Just returned from fabulous group trip to Ethiopia. I usually arrange all my own travel and go with my adult daughter, but was pleasantly surprised by the sophistication of the group and how well the group leaders took care of everything. I have lived in South Africa for 3 years and traveled all over southern Africa, and it was refreshing to be in a country that was safe (except for driving in addis) and who loved tourists. The trip itself was a good mix of northern historical sites and Omo Valley ethnic sites. I was pretty well done with churches but loved seeing the Hamer, Mursi etc. Saw the bull jumping ceremony and was both amazed and shocked. Lots of blood!! As a doctor I was amazed the women didn't get horrible infections from their whip lacerations. Bought a lip plate right out of a ladies lip (my daughter wanted it sterilized)
