Ireland to require additional COVID test from passengers on arrival

Reuters) - Ireland is to require arriving passengers to take a COVID-19 test on arrival in addition to one taken in the days before traveling, Deputy Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said on Tuesday.

"Even though we have the strictest border biosecurity already in the European Union, we'll be making that stricter again in the coming weeks, starting with an additional PCR test on arrival as well as before people arrive," he said.

I assume it's off to a quarantine hotel while waiting for results to come back

No; a mandatory hotel quarantine is only enforced on those arriving from countries on the list of high-risk countries, currently numbering 33, though a leak yesterday suggested that number may be increased by 43 and include countries such as US, France and Germany.

All other arrivals into Ireland are supposed to self-isolate in their own home or whatever accommodation they have arranged for themselves, as has been the case since March of last year.

No Irish media are carrying this story.

Anyone from the current group 2 countries list is tested within 24 hours of arrival at quarantine

Given how slow the Irish Government has been in dealing with travel, we will probably be all vaccinated by the time they get to this. As soon as we can cross the border freely into Northern Ireland any international travel restriction dies regardless of policy as Belfast's airports will get very very busy
