Avios for trans-atlantic BIZ worth it?

I don't consider myself an award specialist but I was a bit surprised to see that BIZ awards require triple the number of avios to economy awards.
With BA and Iberia the number of avios for business awards is usually more or less double that of economy awards. (same is true for AA as far as I remember)

Is it worth spending that amount of avios to fly in business or is it better to use your avois for economy bookings with Aer Lingus.

You'll be paying almost 4 times as much if you travel Off Peak.

And your statement regarding BA's rates is bit off. LHR-JFK costs 13k/50k Avios off peak (in Economy/World Traveller) and 20k/60k Avios peak (in Business/Club World) - compare that with EI's prices for DUB-JFK; they are identical!!!!

It is very rarely a good deal to use Avios for Economy rewards, this is because of the taxes and airline surcharges that are also payable on reward flights, which means the cash outlay for Award flights in Economy is the same, or sometimes more, than an Economy fare. Avios seats re more flexible, but with the current travel with confidence scheme even that argument has been weakened. I think of it as Business Class flights for Economy prices + the Avios. Its a shame that EI dont offer some sort of companion voucher. That makes the calculation a lot easier.
