Aer Lingus orders six new Airbus planes
Aer Lingus is set to get six new Airbus A321XLR aircraft, which will enable it to launch new routes beyond the US east coat and Canada.
The owner of Aer Lingus, International Airlines Group, also said it has ordered eight Airbus A321XLRs for its Iberia airline.
Airbus launched the A321XLR, which has a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles, at the Paris Airshow yesterday.
Aer Lingus and Iberia will be among the launch customers for the extra long-range narrowbody aircraft with their first deliveries scheduled for 2023.
The A321XLR will be used to expand both Aer Lingus and Iberia's existing longhaul fleets.
Each aircraft will be fitted with Economy and Business cabins including full flat seats and they will also feature the same inflight entertainment and internet connectivity and as new generation longhaul aircraft.

No, not yet anyway. They had some A350 on order but some of these orders have been transferred to Iberia and others essentially frozen I think.

Personally I think the A330s are a great plane for long haul Y travel. The 2-4-2 layout is great and the slight improvements in the neo (quieter in the cabin, larger overhead bins I believe) plus new aircraft toys and feel would be great to have on EI long haul especially further out than US east coast.

A330 is a great aircraft the A350 is also a great aircraft but and its a big but the A330 is cheaper to buy and the cost savings per pax/km of the A350 vs the A330 neo are fairly small.
A330-300 HGW can reach every destination in NA with a full passenger load from Dublin, the A350 is too much plane, if EI was flying the the Far East the A350 would be perfect. Same thing applies to the A330-200 really, way more range than needed and the operating costs are basically the same as the -300 but the -300 has a lot more seats.

EI are a bit like TAP in the sense none of their routes really require the A350. The later build A333s can cover the whole network, making even the 332 superfluous.
If EI want to push deep into Asia or onto the Pacific Rim they would need the capabilities of the A350/787 but I don’t think they have appetite for that right now - it’s going to be about competition-free/limited secondary US markets with big incentives or revenue guarantees.

A321 is an accountants plane, the range and fuel burn are very good.
757 has better performance, range about the same but payload wise there is more room. Also has bogie landing gear which makes a difference in terms of runways for both landing and departure

Maybe because it’s in the old livery, rather than a comment about the A350? It might even come back after a repaint? Or be replaced with an A321LR model. I wonder if Airbus provided one?
What are the chances that most Guests, or employees, would notice the model being an A321/330/350. How many would care? They would be far more likely to notify the “old plane”. The cabin of the A321LR appears to have been designed and branded by people who know what they are doing - hopefully the same team are ensuring the new branding is being consistently applied everywhere.

The '2019' underneath the A350 means it had to go this year. IB is already flying the birds EI was to get and BA got its first last week.
