Avios but no Tier Points

I travelled as an Aerclub member on an Aer Lingus return flight (EI***) within Europe, with a booking number commencing with "2". My ticket number did not begin with 053 because it had been purchased outside Ireland. I was awarded avios points but refused tier points. This seems a harsh and arbitrary rule! Is it anyone else's experience that this applies?

Only tickets sold by Aer Lingus count. Regardless of where sold in the world it will be issued as a 053 if sold by Aer Lingus. Every ticket with a EI segment should have a EI PNR with 2 at the start regardless of who sold it.

It looks like whoever sold you the ticket plated it on a different airline, this is rare and likely to be a travel agency involved or as part of a ticket with other flights.

First 3 digits from the ticket?
3 digit or 4 digit flight number? greater than 4000?
Fare class, ?

The ticket number began 169....
The flights were EI331 and EI338, Economy Class., PNR began with a 2.

I guess it must have been a travel agent who it was booked through. Still seems a bit wrong though that business brought to Aer Lingus doesn't benefit the flyer. Maybe I should try another airline??

Ah, the famous Hahn Air ticketing operation, a tiny airline thats an airline which really exists to be a travel agency to do some creative ticketing as being an airline.

Your ticket was sold by a third party and was not plated on EI. Had you purchased a ticket plated by EI with EI code from any source it would have earned.

If this is a corporate booking I'd have a chat with your supplier as this kind of ticketing can cause all kinds of problems if you had connected flights

This doesn't seems to match up with the issuing of tickets, only EI and BA can issue tickets with ONLY EI segments, on 053 or 125. So you shouldn't be able to buy EI flights on a 169 plate unless it connects to another airline.

Thanks for such speedy replies. I'll learn from this one!
