WIKI : AerClub member benefits by tier

Just thought I would create a thread/Wiki for member benefits which I received this morning. Going forward it would be good to have a dedicated thread/Wiki which can be updated along the way and after entry into OW. The other thread is mostly speculation and quite long.

I will be getting more information as it comes out and will try to update anything important.

So they think 1 Avios is worth 25 pence (0.25 GBP)

My personal valuation is 1 Avios = 0.75 p

What about the qualification thresholds for each tier? Any news there?

Is there a separate qualification currency, or will it be linked to Avios acquired (aka: amount spent) per annum?

Fixed calendar year for qualification, or rolling 12-months?

So no free checked baggage at any level? That's pretty poor.

They've published some useful information on the site introducing AerClub, including:

Fly on our global airline network and collect Avios points
You will be able to fly on selected AerClub airline partners and collect even more Avios points. The points collected on these flights will be earned based on the distance flown.

Waived change fee could be pretty impressive, particularly once it becomes possible to ticket oneworld JV TATL itineraries on EI stock

It would be; but I expect that your expectations may be dashed. It could be restricted to EI-only flights.

Aye probably, 300 EUR penalty on discount J to "no charge" is probably too good to be true.

Also, do the EI planes have wifi? I did not know this.

Yes, they do (only the A330s for now). For quite some time already (since September 2013 on all A330s). And free for business class passengers.

No, it is the avios earn rate per £ spent.

So a £100 ticket would earn 400 avios, which if you value avios at 0.75p/each would mean £3 or 3% rebate on the ticket price.

You've calculated the 'break even' point where the value of avios equals the earn rate, in other words if you value avios at 25p/each you would be getting a 100% rebate.

A few of these benefits don't really seem to be in the Oneworld 'spirit'

Given that BA has already broken the "extra/free baggage" perk for Emeralds - there really is nothing in even the Emerald oneworld benefits that is not replicated in AerClub.

  • Access to First Class or Business Class priority check-in - check
  • Priority boarding - check
  • Access to preferred or pre-reserved seating (where offered) - check
  • Priority standby and waitlisting (where offered) - check
  • Access to more than 600 airport lounges (with one guest) when travelling internationally, including premium First Class, Business Class and frequent flyer lounges, regardless of the class of service flown that day. For details about the oneworld lounge access policy, click here. - check [when re-admitted to oneworld!]
  • Extra baggage allowance - check
  • Priority baggage handling - check
  • Fast Track through security at select airports - check

Depends how much your ticket was. You should easily be able to calculate the avios earn through AerClub based on the above table, and use the calculator for each segment on BA.com to calculate through BAEC.
