Yesterday's Irish Times claimed that the new configuration will be 1 - 2 - 1 thus allowing direct aisle access for all.

Very plush. Do all seats come with a break-out area with easy chair and coffee table, or did he just blag the correct row?

I like that config, is it not 2-2-1? the seats/beds will be a major improvement especially for West Coast. ^

Telegraph

A MULTI-million pound deal has been signed by Portadown-based Thompson Aero Seats to provide the latest in lie-flat aircraft seats for Aer Lingus.

I'm relatively new to J class travel but on recent flights BA J LHR-HKG, CX J HKG-LHR (new business seat) and EI J DUB-BOS, EI won hands down on everything, the only proviso being that I wouldn't want the EI seat on a 12 hour overnight flight, but then they don't currently do that!

Since you are NEW on J Class travel I think your opinion is not really accurate.
Can you please elaborate how EI is better than CX?

I travelled on EI before and to be honest, I thought I was on a LCC.

Can opinions be 'accurate'?

I didn't say that EI was 'better' than CX, but I did enjoy the flight with EI DUB-BOS more than the CX flights I've been on. The crew and the food were superior, in my opinion, for me, as I experienced it!!!

The best CX flight that I've been on was KUL - HKG in J, that doesn't mean that the regional seat is better than the new J L/H seat just that I enjoyed it more, the food was better and the crew were better.

It may well be that the next time I'm on an EI flight that it won't be as good but I'll remember to remind myself that I might be wrong because my opinion may not be accurate ;-) and as it will probably be to SFO I will be longing for the CX seat I'm sure!

Any semi-reliable info out there on when to expect these new J interiors to be in service? I'm thinking about SFO-DUB in July 2015.

I know the plan is to "begin" the new J cabins "in Q1 2015" (and that the SFO-DUB route will get it first), but....I'm new to EI (so don't know how much credibility to give their projections), schedules *do* slip, and what exactly does it mean if they will "begin" in Q1 - begin doing the work (how long does it take to install a new interior - days, weeks, or months) or begin flying them?

Basically, what I'm looking for (from you who know EI better than me) is, what are the chances I'd be on a lie-flat (and not in the aisles...) outta SFO come July 2015?

Thanks!

I think there is a good chance that SFO will have the new seats by Jul 15, I am less confident about the other routes. I think summer 16 is more realistic for 100% rollout.

EI fleet is pretty maxed out, so I cannot see them taking aircraft out of service in peak season (May-Sept) to fit new seats. I reckon most of the A330 fleet will be refitted during downtime in autumn-winter 2015

From what Thompson Aero says in the press release on their website, the first ship should be going in to get fitted in December and the last one should be completed in March:
http://www.thompsonaero.com/index.php/news/
The deal involves the purchase of 189 seats for all seven A330 aircraft with the first seats delivered in December this year and all in service by the end of March 2015. They will be available on all our transatlantic flights from Dublin Airport including the new route to San Francisco announced last month.
If this is true this is good news!

Right now all A330s aircraft have 24 business seats for a total of 168. This means there will be a gain of 21 seats fleet wide. If the video of the A330-300 on the Aer Lingus website it to be believed, the A330-300 will have 30 seats leaving the A330-200 with only 23 seats each.
