It does make sense. It will for sure reduce the number of A3 elites outside of the EU area.

What happens if on June 1st I'm mid way on retaining my status? Do I need the new or the old requirements?

Not really so bad for those who actually fly A3 - 9-12k is ok.. one more trip a year to beautiful Greece!

Reading this whilst on a Aegean flight waiting to finish boarding... (In fact, one to Larnaca with an unusually huge amount of Turkish and Azeri athletes on it) — that's actually somewhat charitable since some FFPs would make flying on their own metal a prerequisite.

Strangely the link in the email they sent out doesn’t work for me. So the only change is if you don’t fly Aegean at all. Pre Covid it was already 12k + 4 sectors.

To sum it up, it only affects status for those who don't fly A3:

Upgrade to Silver tier

Collect a total of 35,000 tier miles regardless the airline you choose to fly with.

Silver tier retention

Collect a total of 35,000 tier miles, regardless the airline you choose to fly with.

Upgrade to Gold tier

Collect a total of 70,000 tier miles, regardless the airline you choose to fly with.

Gold tier retention

Collect a total of 70,000 tier miles, regardless the airline you choose to fly with.

I would have expected 48.000 rather than 70.000. However, I guess the choice of 70, while 12 remains 12 shows that they really want you to either fly to Greece once per year or lose your status. Actually seems pretty clever. Just telling people that if they want the easy gold status, just send Aegean some business. A lot of airlines don't even give you an option in that regard. So at least they have an alternative method.

Thank you. However, it would have been more helpful to paste the actual information here. The link is not working currently because the website is overloaded, and the likelihood is that t is not going to work in the long run either.

That's how I've been doing it. (Except when everything was locked down, but my status got extended.) "I have to visit Greece annually to easily maintain my status? When there's cheap fares to Europe on the regular, so I can access A3 flights? I SUPPOSE I could do that..." LOL
