Increase In Award Ticket Prices [confirmed]

I hope this is some kind of mistake/oversight, but I was just searching for J class awards within Asia (normally priced at 21,000 miles one-way) and all of a sudden, the price went up to 32,500 miles!?!?

According to the award chart, my fears seem to have been validated:

Does anyone know anything about this? Was there any prior warning?

Well if only they could have at least given a day or two's notice...
That is not very nice, I was going to book an intra-Far East award

Me too! I was in the process of booking just now when it changed.

Absolutely devastated! :(

Wow they also gutted the nice Europe-North America from 90/120 k miles in J/F to 110/150 k miles in J/F!

So looking at the chart the following have been devalued:
Europe <-> Far East
Europe <-> Near East/Central Asia
Europe <-> North America
Far East <-> Far East

The big question is, how does Aegean handle changes to existing award tickets?
Will simple date changes (on the same route) be accompanied by an additional mileage-charge now (for tickets issued under the old chart)?

Scummy move. Giving even a few weeks advance notice would have been the decent thing to do.

This kind of move without any advance notice before implementation is not a good indicator for the future of this program for its customers. It also makes me wonder what economic pressures Aegean felt now that they needed to rush this change in now just a few weeks before the calendar end and do so with no advance notice to its customers.

This kind of airline move most intensely punishes the airline’s most loyal customers that accumulated and maintained the biggest balances of points in the program.

At least they could have divide Far east into 2 regions with lower mileage within region itself.

So this is at least the second time within 2019 that Aegean changes "prices" (the former being added luggage pricing, changed without warning during the 2nd week of February).
I have mentioned this to them multiple times and stressed the fact that they need to notify customers of "upcoming" changes before they happen, but this now makes it a clear pattern. Other airlines announce devaluations months if not a whole year in advance (and there are still many complaints) this is simply the worst way to do it.

Seems like my redemption last week on NH F LAX-HND-LHR was well timed. Increasing is bad but it has been for years the best program to use miles with. Agree they could give some notice in advance. Ugh...will need to count if this is still the best FFP then.

It's interesting because last weekend I was considering cancelling my AMS-BKK-TPE-LAX on BR and booking the NH F that you mention. But this morning I decided that the soft product on BR is just as good as what I've seen of NH, and that ultimately the additional 15,000 miles could go towards my next redemption. Looks like I'll be needing those!

I fixed it for you.

I've only done 4 different kinds of Star Alliance redemptions so far and those included all 3 geographical area combinations that got a raise/devaluation (though, of course, not all 9 classes available :P).
I think that besides some intra-Far-East redemptions that are 1h-2h-flights, which are certainly not worth 32500 miles in J or 45000 in F and most likely not worth even the Y redemption at 17500 miles over a paid ticket with some low cost carriers in the area, the FFP is still OK/good (I mean the Europe-N.America route in J now costs as much as it used to cost in Lufthansa's miles until last May or so, not taking LH's equivalent of "happy miles" into account). The main factor that makes a FFP good for you or not is how easily you can accrue miles and at the same time how easy it is to spend them. For me (being Greek) the former is the best by far (from the 2-3 FFP's that come into question for me / are available to me in the first place), the latter is sadly quite far behind other *A members. So it's a delicate balance, depending also on what routes come into question ("luckily", having to fly quite often to/from Greece to usually expensive destinations still lets me benefit from award tickets considerably).

This is a big blow, especially Far East <-> Far East.
