ANNOUNCEMENT

Thursday, 17-05-2018
On behalf of our Board of Directors and the employees of AEGEAN, we would like to express our deep sorrow for the loss of our Chairman and Founder, Theodoros Vassilakis. He was a source of inspiration for all of us, from our very first flight, our very first passenger to this very day. His vision, and his values, will continue to guide us.

Theodoros Vassilakis passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the age of 78.

RIP

That is very sad news. With the old guard gone, I wonder what will happen to the company.

Too soon for a moment of black humour?

All the mourners will be sitting at the back of the church for the memorial because they refuse to pay extra for up-front seats.

He built a very good airline. Do I remember right that it was privately held rather than being a public company with publicly traded stock?

BTW, did Onassis found Olympic or just buy it after someone else had started the airline?

a) Aegean's stock is traded at the Athens Stock Exchange. Members of the Vassilakis family and Vassilakis-owned Autohellas SA hold about 35% while the Lascaridis family hold another ~17%.
b) Onassis purchased the government-owned TAE in the fifties and reorganized it, completely renewing the fleet. OA was sold back to the Government in the early 70s.
