Tier miles purchase options changes [all tiers, buy more, cost more]

Just received an e-mail stating the following - good news (particularly since it doesn't come with a price hike)

Blue members can now purchase tier miles to upgrade to Silver status. Also Silver and Gold members can purchase 1,000 more tier miles than previously.

Below you may see how many miles can be purchased per tier:

Blue members up to 1,000 tier miles
Silver members up to 2,000 tier miles
Gold members up to 3,000 tier miles

Tier miles can be purchased in sets of 500 at the price of 50€ per set. To purchase tier miles simply login to your Miles+Bonus account, go to My Miles+Bonus page and then select "I want to... Purchase miles". The miles will be automatically credited to your account upon the completion of the purchase.

Hang on! Didn't it use to be 25 Euros per 500 miles?

It was 25€ per 500 miles. They doubled the price.

Hmm...there are two ways of looking at this I suppose. Good if you find it difficult to fit in enough flights, but bad for the wallet!

The truth is it's still nice to have the opportunity to top up tier miles, unlike some FFPs where you can't do it (BAEC for example).

You've got to give it to the P.R. team though, good presentation!

I wish that Aegean would introduce a tier mile rollover....

The current system provides scant incentive to keep flying once Gold has been maintained for a further year.

You and me both. I have a flight which might just require 1000 instead. So delayed.

Still it is nice to be able to get them. My travel has been restricted this year as I apply for a green card (no intl), so the ability to purchase tier miles is useful and at most it's an extra 100 euros so not going to destroy me.

Or Lifetime Gold at say 100,000 tier miles

Agree on both points. So to re-qualify for A3*G, I now need ca. 460 Euros* and 6604 Tier Miles. 1604 Tier miles if I qualify for the A3 credit card. Not a bad deal. These days, I'm never sure if re-qualification is going to be worth it for me, but seeing that once that gold card is gone, it's not going to reappear all that easily, spending additional money to requalify is almost a no-brainer.

*300 to purchase miles, 160 for the ticket CPH - RHO.

Don't you need a Greek tax number for the credit card? Also, are you sure the 5K bonus miles count as tier miles?

And you need to prove your income... I haven't heard that that's changed.

I really wish some of the denizens of this board were in charge of Miles+Bonus. That way, all you would need to renew is that credit card and a single business-class return on a routing like AMS-ATH-IST

EDIT: OK. *G retention just got even easier!!!! (for Greek taxnumber holders at least!)

What about the cost of award miles, did they raise the cost for these as well?

Gutted with the price increase just a few days before I was planning on buying a few miles.

P.S. Is there an admin that can remove the "(positively)" from the thread title? :-)
