Yes indeed because they were greedy and would rather let them stay there and the tax payer fund the bill and now will get back less than 50% of what they would have back then.

The IMF dont really care about individual minor asset sales. They are more interested in much larger state assets which are/were worth much more. 2 A340s are a drop in the Ocean.

A3 Flying to JFK?

Only financially possible as a seasonal route, with the aircrafts used at the LHR route as well.

Maybe an a350 (same family with a320/321 similar service requirements) or an 787

Planespotters.net shows the Government still has a few 737s and 747-200s in storage, so there may well yet be more disposals over the coming months.

You talking about the B747/B737/B727 at Old ATH being looked after by the ''Museum''?

I've no idea! Planespotters only lists them as "stored". I would have thought anything left at the old airport would not have been maintained and would show as scrapped though.

I suspect you may know rather more than me about the situation :).

DELLAS Mar 10, 2016 7:14 am

Those are not assets anymore so would not be on a list for sale.

They are owned by the Museum and were cleaned inside and some things re painted outside like the name etc.. They have open days for enthusiasts and ex staff etc..

This video is a recent one showing the current state.

I will try dig out the one from the recent open day.

NWIFlyer Mar 10, 2016 8:41 am

Yes, that would be tailfin SX-OAB, which certainly corresponds with the 'stored' list. There are three others (2 x 747, 1 x 737) listed. Would this tally with the museum? No 727 listed on Planespotter though ...

DELLAS Mar 10, 2016 8:53 am

The list seems to have errors. Only 1 B747 at Hellinikon. 1 B727 1 B737 and a BAC1-11 ( Not OA ).

No, the 747's were retired a few years before the current ATH opened and I don't believe any of them have ever visited. There ARE a few old 747's at ATH - at least a couple belong to Hellenic Imperial so I've no idea if they have any kind of future.

The HIA have a more interesting story. You could write a new thread with that fiasco.

Xandrios Mar 15, 2016 1:09 am

Please do :p I always wondered why that 747 is just sitting there at ATH, seemingly never out being flown anywhere..

In addition, if it fits the topic, what about the reported arrival of N612MX in ATH for the the new Olympus Airways?
