LH Train - [need 18k miles]
I see a lot of questions on different threads about the LH train so I thought creating a thread about it might be easier if you are looking for more information.
I haven't tried myself but want to in order to get 18k miles through the train.
Is this working for all train tickets you can buy on LH? Mannheim - Frankfurt is only 25 euros one way in Y so that would yield 2.6 eurocent per mile, not bad at all!
Do you guys have any positive/negative experience with this ?
Thanks

18,000 miles is an awful lot to collect via LH train, given the difficulties in retro-claim etc if the trip doesn't post.
Trains are also not always 25 Euros, in many cases they might be approaching 4x that, so in the vast majority of cases if you want miles it's cheaper to fly for status or just buy for award (and let's face it, there's no point in having status if you're not going to fly sometime!). The LH train trick really is only suitable if you need a small amount of status miles and have no other quick or easy way of getting them.

Why not just buy a cheapo SAS ticket? lowest fare still gives 100% miles. Last time I checked CDG-OSL cost about 130,00 Euro and you get 835 miles.

Because the OP would have to fly that route 22 times (based on your 835 miles figure) in order to get the required number of miles. And actually take all of those flights.

I used this method last year when I needed a little over 200 miles to qualify for Gold:
Lufthansa Cologne-Frankfurt (QKL - FRA) - LH3621 - Q 250 250
The miles (250) posted within a few days and the next day my card was upgraded to Gold.
Everything was done on the LH website just as for a normal flight.

Did anybody lately make an experience with the LH train? Were the miles from the train trip successfully credited to the M&B account? I'm just wondering, if this is still possible, as they mention on their homepage "operated by Deutsche Bahn AG". In case the metal counts, earning in M&B would no longer be possible. Or do I understand this in a wrong way?

hi all,
I do have the same question since my wife is 1863 miles short for gold but won't be able to fly anymore.
looking at the LH train it would even post 1000 miles per leg or am I mistaken?
for 57 € per leg that would be quite a fair earning.
so long&greetz

That earning is in Miles&More, not Miles&Bonus. M&B earns according to the LH table for Domestic flights.
As I'm on on an iPad, I can't see the exact earnings right now because of course A3's website doesn't render properly for that, and it seems they changed on 26th October, but hopefully you can dig down yourself

Well if the miles don't post automatically you'll have a hard time claiming them, as Deutsche Bahn is not a Star Alliance member.
Further most times I've heard about miles not posting automatically to M&B recently was on the Mannheim-FRA route. QKL-FRA seems to be a better bet though this is only empirical evidence.

Route / Total / success
QKL-FRA / 10 / 4
MAN-FRA / 8 / 2
This would give actual indicator on how this is working.
