With the evolution of the Miles&Bonus program, there are a number of threads on this forum that contain outdated information, plus a further set that - whilst describing the new program - contain conflicting information that has only been crystallised as we all discover how certain aspects of the program either work or are interpreted.
It is perhaps therefore unsurprising that many new members find searching through this myriad of threads a little daunting, and consequently they post a question in one of the FAQ threads.
This tends to irk those who've been around for a while who expect the new posters to at least do some basic searching before posting a question that has probably been asked many times before. This also causes the forums to become very congested and less easy to read through with the same question being asked and answered many times.
I am therefore creating a thread, which will be stickied, for anyone to ask any question they like about the M&B program where they are unsure or it's not obvious where they should be posting it.
There is no such thing in this thread as a stupid question, no issue with asking a repeat question, and any answers should be 100% flame-free. I will take a dim view of anyone that abuses a member or provides a less than helpful answer (such as 'do a search') to any question asked in here, because this is being created to benefit all of us so the other threads flow more cleanly. Thank you for your co-operation on this.
It might be that I move questions to more appropriate threads so they receive an answer more quickly, but if I do so I will always add a note to indicate where they originated, and ask that the flame-free answer principle be respected.

status miles vs. redeemable miles:
I can't find explicit mention of this anywhere, but I assume that in Miles & Bonus 'tier miles' earned are the same number as 'redeemable miles' earned? Meaning: if a certain booking class earns no (redeemable) miles according to the earnings table (for example, discounted fares in both economy and business), it also earns no 'tier miles'?

I suppose this is obvious to all of you, but I come from BA where 'tier points' are unrelated to 'avios'.
Thanks!

Seat Upgrade on Turkish
Hello All,
After researching Aegean's M&B site, I understand that I can use my miles to upgrade to Business from Economy on Turkish Airline.(15K Europe-North Africa)
However, when I called in to Aegean they informed me that its not possible yet.
Please advise if I am mistaken or do I need a different agent. TIA

Hey guys i'm planning a mileage run to get A3 Gold, a flight to GRU on UA via IAH 'should' be the cheapest solution because it's 19828 miles and it costs around 755 euro's . But I heard that UA's mile earning system has changed and it's revenue based 5 x 755 = 3775 miles.
But Aegean's website states that UA V class fares earn 100% on A3, does that mean that I earn 3775 miles on A3 or that I earn 100% of the miles flown on UA on my A3 account? (so that would be 19828 miles)
(A flight from BRU to GRU on Ethiopian will earn me 19582 but that will cost me 950 euro's, i'm a student so i'm on a budget.)
Thanks in advance.

If you credit the flight miles to your Aegean account, You will get 19828 miles, however if you credit your miles to your United FF account, you will earn 3775, as united have changed their earning only when credited to their own FF accounts, but when crediting them to Aegean, you will receive as it says on Aegean website, which is 100%.

You need to refer to the A3 earning chart for UA, so if V earns and continues to earn at 100% then you will obtain 19828 miles. The way MileagePlus works now has no relevance to how M&B works, so don't worry about that.
However, unless you've taken 4 A3 flights (assuming this is a renewal - you need more if qualifying for the first time because you have to go through Silver first), that will still not be enough to reach Gold - you now need 24,000 miles on other airlines' metal with no A3 flights in your year if renewing, or lots more if starting from scratch.
I fear you may have been reading the requirements for the old scheme, which was updated last year. Take a read through this thread:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/aegea...tails-m-b.html
... which may help you.

You will need 2 flights plus 12,000 miles to reach Silver (or 24k with no A3/OA flights)
Your miles, flights and qualification 'year' will then reset (with the exception that any miles above the 12k/24k will be carried over)
You then need a further 4 flights plus 24k miles to reach Gold (or 48k with no flights)
So from scratch to Gold is 6 flights plus 36k miles, or 2 flights plus 60k, or no flights and 72k.
There is no longer a cheap way to qualify from scratch, I'm afraid.

Well it's still pretty 'cheap'

Confused about elementary mileage earning!
This sounds very elementary but I think I should go ahead and ask anyway.
I am currently A3 silver needing 13,220 miles to upgrade to *Gold. I have a long-haul coming up in 10 days. LGW-IST-GRU-EZE in V on TK. The return is EZE-GRU-IST-ATH in A (premium economy) but Y on IST-ATH leg.
Miles and Bonus told me that I have A from IST-ATH but, as we know, there is no A class on that flight so that's probably why it's been transposed to Y.
My first question is: Do I qualify for *Gold? I have been using Great Circle Mapper to work out the calculations. Is that the best way to do it? Or do airlines have specific mileage for specific routes. TK told me they credit 1250 for Y from IST-ATH. Therefore, do I calculate 100% of 1250 or 100% of actual geographical miles. Can anyone clarify?
Thanking you in advance!
