Swiss P Class down to 100%

M&B has published a new earning table on LX for flights after January 1st. The only change I can see is that P is down to 100% from 200%. It should probably be listed as "Business discounted" instead of "Economy discounted".

intuition Dec 9, 2013 6:39 am

Ouch, that is sad (but perhaps expected). One of the good ones gone.
Thanks for the heads up.

(It is actually not a business discounted fare, it is a economy upgraded fare).

This is consistent with SWISS's handling of P in their own Miles & More programme - business P earns less (domestic:500 European:750 global:100%) than the higher economy fares (B,Y - domestic 1,000; B, M, Y - European 1,250; B, Y - worldwide 150%)

I think, the last frequent flyer programm, where SWISS P earns more than 100% is now UA Mileage Plus, where it still earns 150% (I keep my fingers crossed for that ;)).

Oh, of course it is and that is why it was expected. Never the less sad.

Basically, it's a "funny" fare. I flew last summer LX/OS ATH-ORD booked on a Lufthansa ticket as a business discounted fare. It was P on both airlines, and got 200% and 100% respectively.

Well, cross Europe in business at 200% for ≈400€ it was a decent fare. At 100% it is not. Sad, because I started to like Swiss. Looks like SK in "plus" is now what is left for intra europe running. But their service is nowhere near LX.

So Z-fare is still safe for now then. I had feared that would also go down.

True for intra-European flights, but intercontinental P offers are independent of available Economy fares

OK, good point.

Crap! I had planned to book a P fare for January to get me over the Gold threshold. Glad I held off buying the ticket so far..

With the Swiss P fare one could travel roundtrip through Europe for < 500 euro and earn 6K miles. Do we have any alternatives within Europe? The only one I can come up with is SK, but their "business class" is not really comparable with LX..

I thought SK had done away with business class intra-Europe?

intuition Dec 11, 2013 2:56 pm

They have. However, the SK fares called "PLUS" (which I believe he is referring to) earns 200% - the service is nothing, but sometimes they can be had for good value. Theses are pretty good for racking up points.

Xandrios Dec 12, 2013 6:56 am

Yes, I was talking about their Plus. Which is priced almost the same as Swiss P, unfortunately.

Some more changes that A3 added:

Air Canada: W,S down from 100% to 50%
Brussels airlines: W,S from 750 to 500 miles; Z from 2000 to 1250 miles, M,U from 750 to 1250.

The Air Canada change is due to AC moving more fares from Tango+ to Tango. It'll soon be pretty much impossible to earn 100% to North America for a sensible fare.
