Didn't know this either; this is, indeed, great news, especially if one lives outside of a *A hub!

No it isn't. MANY two or three stop itineraries are available but look at the price: they're charging you for two separate redemptions - 30,000 for Europe to North america then 12,500 for the intra-region third flight.

It would be nice to look at the possibilities, if only the search page wasn't so daft. What's the point of purchasing miles if you are unable to find out what you can book!

SFO-PHL, UA/Y: 12.5k miles + 4.93 Euro taxes.

Interestingly enough, the award calendar showed availability from SFO-EWR (my desired destination) for 12.5k miles as well, with both available options connecting via IAD. However, when I clicked through to buy either of these options, it notified me that the mileage requirements had been changed, and that these were now 25k miles. Has this happened to anyone else before?

Do you see this in the 30 day calendar view, and also after you click the date you want?

What date are you looking at? You might see a jump in pricing either when you click on "business class" instead of "economy class", or click another flight that is not the one you are looking for.

If you simply want to go SFO-EWR, why search for SFO-PHL?
Availability issues?

  • Flight date is 30/9, in Y.
  • On the 30-day calendar view, it states that there are SFO-EWR flights available for 12.5k miles.
    • When I click on the date in question, I see only a single award flight option, and that it is available at the 12.5k mile rate. So far so good.
  • However, when I select this 12.5k option, and go to the next page ("Passenger Details") a red box at the top of the screen states "The miles cost for your trip has changed. The new cost is displayed below. (8016 - 2502)".
    • Despite the sudden increase in mileage pricing, the ticket still shows as booking into Booking Class X, Economy Class.
See the photos below

  1. I have no specific schedule in which I need to be in NYC.
  2. The SFO-PHL offering for 12.5k is non-stop vs. a 1-stops via IAD with tight connection times on the SFO-EWR awards
  3. The SFO-EWR awards "re-price" to 25k, and I'd rather save the 12.5k miles and take an easy and cheap train to NYC from PHL.

Why don't you just call them to book it for you and waive the booking fee due to their website error?

CKG-TPE-VIE (CA and BR) in J, 55k + 49.58 EUR (+20 EUR phone fee)

My routing doesn't show up automatically on the website, which is also the case for most departures from mainland Chinese cities. Both segments did, however, show availability individually, prompting me to make the call to A3 to book them as one ticket. It would be nice to have a flight-by-flight selection option on the search engine in the future, as it definitely is a hassle to have to make the call, not to mention to be charged the service fee.

Also noticing that A3 has close to zero CA or UA domestic business/first awards, which really restricts redemptions from non-hubs, since A3 charges Y+J redemptions as two segments and such routing doesn't violate the 1-stopover rule either. Y+Y routes (i.e. somewhere in China-PEK on CA, PEK-CPH on SK), however, are bookable via the website and charged as a single award + tax and fees.

Trying to book FRA-HKG and HKG-LHR

On HKG-LHR it show two odd options:

1) AI through Mumbai and Delhi. Prices at 75.000 miles as first class and equipment is shown as 787. 787 Doesn't have first class. What's the catch?

2) TG through Bangkok. Prices at 96000 miles business class. No clarification why it's more expensive, no extra stopovers or difference in classes shown.

What's the catch?

1. It might price as O, but if you look carefully, it might be I. Happens always with NZ - prices as I, but puts you in X...
2. HKG - BKK in I (21k) + BKK - LHR in O (75k) = 96k in total.

You see actual classes when you select the flight and click on the small arrow on the right site of the page.

Can someone explain to me what classes I,X,O represent? are there any other redemption fare classes available? I guess I,X is Business, O is first?

I booked SJJ-IST-LHR on TK in Business Class around a month ago, for travel next week. The cost was 25k miles plus €143.26 in fees.

I'm just wondering whether I should be able to recall the booking on the TK website, e.g. to select a seat or do online check-in. When I enter the PNR given to me by A3 I get the following message:

And on the A3 website, in case it's relevant, above the booking it says:

and below the itinerary it says this, which I thought looked a bit odd:

Perhaps this is entirely normal and my only option is to check in at the airport in Sarajevo. Is anyone able to confirm, to put my mind at ease? Thanks in advance.
