Since its the same airline probably there wont be need to clear customs. Should i go for it?
Unless you are very risk averse I would say it should be fine to do it. Have in mind the following though before proceding:
  • As much as I love flying TK (and especially their J cabin ), it's not an airline that I would like to experience IrrOps with, even if my two segments were booked under a single reservation on a paid ticket...
  • Also keep in the back of your mind that in case TK changes the departure time of one of your flights making your connection impossible, then you will need to take care of this by yourself. From my (rather limited) experience this is not something very common with TK, but it's not unheard of either.
  • If you decide to go for it make sure to allow for plenty of time between your two flights, as ermis177 suggested.
  • At the check-in counter in ATH make sure to have your bags checked all the way to KUL. I have done it before a couple of times with TK and it worked very fine for me. It would help even more if you have already checked-in on your IST-KUL flight.

Yes. The 21.40 flight has only 90 minutes connection time in IST, so i take the earlier at 5,40.
Check in online is not possible on tickets bought witj miles. So at least i make sure to check in baggage straight to final destination.

Looking at availability in Aegean's site i noted a few things.
-Buying a ticket in BC sometimes costs less in miles than economy.
Apart TK which has good availability its really hard to find available seats in BC other companies like SQ, Swiss, Lufthansa or other

After waiting patiently until pretty much last minute to finally book an award ticket with Lufthansa in first class, I was ultimately left disappointed by the fact that all LH F routes (at least to the east, but also most if not all of the westbound flights) for this weekend got sold out during the past few days (lately tickets rarely become available 24h or 48h ahead, in fact I saw some availability for just one of the routes about 1 week before the flight, but I couldn't wait until the middle of the week to start my short vacation). So I had to blow my miles wallet and book a Thai first class award from London to Bangkok, adding during the same booking a LH business class award from Frankfurt to London (200.000 miles and something like 715€ in surcharges for 2 tickets). Now the funny thing is, that this itinerary was listed as (the only available) "business" class award on Aegean's website and the actual bummer was that right after my booking the very same "business" class ticket started appearing as an actual business class ticket (all the way), which would have meant that I would have to pay 90.000 less miles and about 100€ less surcharges, having to trade of course F for C for the long-haul segment. But I had already gotten so excited about flying F that I just couldn't change it, even though the difference in total cost would have been gigantic.
My goal was LH F, with FCT for 150k (again, two tickets), I now have a somewhat "uninteresting" LH C, no "lounge highlight" despite a F ticket at either airport and a very, very nice F product from Thai, but sadly on a schedule that will leave me jetlagged (arrival at 6am while body clock at midnight). But like I said, it was one of those "I have to take this at least once" things.

Now the thing I need help with is booking the return ticket. I have planned to stay in Singapore during the last days of my trip and this brings up a whole new "Aegean issue": Even though on my desired dates there are plenty of available seats from SIN to Bangkok and from Bangkok to Frankfurt, the website but also the phone agents will only allow me to book the very first such available connection, which departs from SIN at 7am (which is 100% pointless, because I would be losing an entire day!). The TG408 flight and the TG920 can both be booked separately (same goes for a Singapore flight that leaves 2h15min before TG408) , only exceed the duration of the last combination available online by about 1h (18h total travel time and the "list" stops at 17h) and even though phone agents can see both flights as a combination, they told me it was not available (which is rubbish, because I have already seen the aforementioned combination being available online on days with less connections available with a shorter travel time than the 408/920 Combi, so the said itinerary then "makes it" on the online list). Does anyone have any remarks regarding this issue? I have had this issue before, but back then the flights I wanted to combine had a 12h layover, so I thought ok, maybe I shouldn't get too "greedy", (though the rules allow for as long a layover as 24h!), but if now even 4h layovers get excluded (not as a general rule of course, just for the specific routing) this seriously limits the flexibility of award tickets (which with Aegean is already quite limited as it is).
PS. I will be connecting at BKK on a flight, again with Thai, to Denpasar. Does anyone know if arriving F passengers, connecting on a C international flight get any "special treatment" at BKK? I have been trying to reach Thai, but they are not answering their phones here!

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it was not possible to book all 3 segments on one go, so I booked the last leg separately, but I will ask them and hope for the best (maybe a voucher for the F lounge?) .

Any creative routings from Dubai to Europe? Lie flat and rather day time flight. Can fly to anywhere. Best I could get is Ethiopian to London for 30k so far which is tempting but it would mean one more day in Dubai..is DXB-BKK-IST still for that cheap?

I think it would still be better than recliner on TK or dry MS...It just came trough me as crazy routing for a few miles and something I have never experienced before...will probably do Ethiopian in the end tho..

I cancelled a redemption as I found a better redemption option. Rather than trying to change the original ticket, I just booked the better option as I was afraid availability would go and the taxes/fees were less than 20 euros in any case.

I was due a refund of about 2 euros after the 20 euros kept by A3, however after 3 weeks no refund has appeared. As calling A3 is rather aggravating for me, I thought I would just rant here and forego the 2 euros.

I tried again (and a bit harder) and finally got a phone agent to book me a somewhat longer connection for the TG920, taking an earlier Singapore flight out of Changi. The TG/TG combination still appeared to have no award availability (even though I also had the agent verify that availability was present for both individual flights). Ended up costing 40€ more for the 2 tickets but I am quite pleased, I spent a few minutes checking out the exact seats I booked while on the inbound flight to Bangkok and it looks quite nice (though it's a huge C cabin). So 55.000 miles + 143€+20€fee per person for the old/regional SQ C and one more 11h flight on the A380 upper deck (the inbound flight wasn't anywhere near as long as I would have liked it to have been). Now I need to put together a plan for my 6h Bangkok layover. I can't have Thai massages for that long, they'll kill me.
2 more redemptions:
Bangkok to Denpasar for 21.000 miles + 68€ per person, 22-year-old 747-400, upper deck, business class (seat probably also 22 years old, but hey wth, fly the 747 - "check").
Denpasar to Singapore for 21.000 miles +14,40€ per person, again, regional C, but not that many options available (the C in the 787s gets blocked for this route, though it is available for redemptions on a number of other routes in this region).
Any suggestions regarding activities/sightseeing for Changi before my outbound in business class? I will probably "only" have 2 hours to spend there, so the "rainforest" might be a tough one

Manila to London via Taipei. Eva Air C class. 67 euros and 55.000 miles. I might ask for a second pair of PJ. They look quite nice.
