@Chiller3333, isnt impossible. Might be difficult to find, but I saw availability between FRA and LAX via HND/NRT (dont remember exactly) in F with NH and I chose OZ instead... now OZ doesnt offer F anymore so I have to travel in J... but is still OK

this was only available back when OZ used to offer F. A lot of people booked these two first class segments technically for price of one when routed via Asia. A3 reacted and this can’t be booked online not by phone anymore.

I spent way too much time looking for availability on FRA/LHR-HND-LAX/SFO and alike.
Not a single day with ANA availability (in any class). Seems like ANA is no longer loading these routings into StarNet.
Asiana flights are available for LHR-ICN-LAX and alike ("only" in C and Y obviously) and availability seems to be good.

What I settled for, and so far I'm quite happy with what I got, is VIE-BKK-TPE-SFO on EVA in C for 45k and 300EUR in taxes and fees.
Flight is still about a year away, but if everything goes to plan I will have to fly from Europe to the US anyway and since I haven't been in San Francisco in ages and love the bay area this was (almost) the ideal flight for me.
Otherwise I'll just take it as a vacation.
Unfortunately it seems like the lounge in VIE is pretty bad, but that's not what I'm flying for

Couple of words about the flights.
BR62 flies VIE-TPE with a technical stop in BKK, which makes the routing longer and a bit more exciting I think.
And since technical stops don't count as layovers, it is within the rules (i.e. one layover of up to 24 hours)
At least on BR62 only one seat was available, but other than that availability seems to solid, with seats showing up for every other day (I only checked dates very far out).

The flight to VIE as well as one from SFO to NYC I will book at a later point in time.
But those should be far easier to get a hold of :P
I'll probably go for a night or two in Vienna and about 5 days in San Francisco.

There's also availability from CDG, though I haven't seen any from AMS or LHR (I think those are the 3 other major European airports BR is flying to).

But only BR62 and BR66 (the flights from VIE) are on the 787. And since I wanted to experience both products, that's what I went with. As a matter of fact, CDG would've even been easier to get to for me

MXP will become another option starting Feb 2020, although BR will fly it with B777.

I have VIE 90 minutes drive so it fits me perfect. The lounge situation is nothing exciting but regular Sen lounge I'd say. The only thing that bothers me on some ex-VIE departures is security at the gate (T3 has its own check)

Looks to me that it's only available very close to the dates furthest out.
At the moment for instance availability seems to be good around the last week of August.
I have to admit though that I haven't checked a large number of earlier dates.
But when I did search for flights in Jan/Feb 2020 I wasn't able to find anything.

Redeemed SIN-PVG-SZX for 21k and 39 Euros. Decided to skip the direct flight on ZH for 5.5 hrs on a regional lie flat on an SQ 787.

I was looking to redeem miles for a ticket ATH-KUL. During Christmas holidays. Found out all days were blocked.
Then i checked separately ATH to IST and IST to KUL. I found, not only plenty of availability but happy miles days like 4.900 miles ATH to IST. All flights on Turkish Airlines. Also taxes were 100 euros cheaper (one way).
Since its the same airline probably there wont be need to clear customs. Should i go for it?

If you do 2 seperate bookings make sure you have enough time between the 2 flights. I would say at least 4 hours to be safe.
