Anyone have experience redeeming intra europe?
Which European carriers have lower surcharges?
I was just on the phone with Aegean and priced out a BCN-IST-TLV roundtrip with Turkish and the taxes came to 255 euros...
Edit: the same revenue ticket booked on Turkish.com comes to 296.

Basically your A3 points will just cover the base fare.
LO generally has lower YQ intra Europe than the others, as does *shockingly* A3
BCN-ATH-TLV has only about €45 in taxes+surcharges each way
Others for comparison for one-way itineraries:

LX via ZRH/GVA: €117
LH via MUC/FRA: €121
LO via WAW: €78

You can see the YQ when you search for your flights on ITA Matrix.
Basically your A3 points will just cover the base fare.
LO generally has lower YQ intra Europe than the others, as does *shockingly* A3

Booked a one way intra-europe. 12.5K miles
20 EUR service fee for booking, taxes match what I found on ITA
pretty painless except that I had to call 3 times - the first two times I was hung up on while on hold after 10 minutes (each time).

Redeemed one-way award in business class for TXL - IST.
Turkish Airlines had no availability, so asked Aegean to check Lufthansa Group airlines.
Managed to redeem for TXL-FRA-IST for 21K miles and 150 euro fee. Not exactly a particularly efficient use of miles, but was significantly better than buying the ticket outright.
Service was great, didn't take any time at all to make the booking.

I tried booking a *A award ticket from YYZ to YVR on May 17. Miles got deducted, but got no confirmation e-mail so far nor was my card charged (May 21). Anyone had a problem like that with Aegean? I should probably call them again...

No problem for SQ638 but the operator on the phone told me that there were no availabilities at all for that specific day on *A for a NRT-SIN...
So I dropped the request and decided to take a look at it through my SQ KrisFlyer account. And there I managed to book the exact above itinerary.
I guess it shows again that airlines do keep some award seats for their own frequent flyers?

Have anybody successfully managed to book SQ Business Class (the regional i.e) using Aegean miles? I have found availability both on EF and Awardtravelr, so I'm wondering whether that same inventory may be available for A3 as well.

I tried booking a ticket between Tokyo and Hong Kong today. Both ExpertFlyer, and Awardtravelr show plenty of awards on those dates, with both SQ and TG having seats open. I called A3 only to find that there were NO seats at all on the selected airlines. Only OZ and CA available. Is the availability really that bad for A3, or was I just having bad luck with the agent?

If the agent searches NRT-HKG, TG and SQ won't come up because of MPM. If the agent searches by segment (NRT-BKK, then BKK-HKG), they probably won't notice that MPM is exceeded. Giving the agent flight numbers instead of origin/destination might work - saying "I want to fly YY123 and then XX321" is more effective than "I want to fly ABC to DEF via GHI"
