That's good then I wasn't aware of such a law, but to be honest I don't think I have come across this practice recently. So that may well be the reason! There are still OTA's though that charge various fees on any card apart from, e.g. Visa Electron, which most banks in Sweden have stopped issuing some years now.

In any case, my point was exactly that: Don't they waive the booking fee, if asked at least, since it appears that there is no other way to buy some flights using your M&B miles? It would be interesting to know for future reference...

This is really strange... On the phone with Aegean was trying to ticket an itinerary with a connection UNDER 24 hours. Oct 26 CPH-FRA (I - Business) Oct 27 FRA-IAD (O - First). They insisted that they are now charging by LEG so they tried to charge CPH-FRA 25k and FRA-IAD for 60k. It should be 60k all the way through right? Even when I said I'd do the same day connection CPH-FRA-IAD, they were quoting 85k (25+60). I said it was 60k online and they insisted it was an error?!? What is this? New policy or misinformed agent? Super confused as they have always allowed 1 sub 24h connection for the same number of miles. Segment by segment logic has never applied to A3 and most airlines for that matter either follow zone or distance based charts not segment by segment. Really bad news if this is the new norm!

I think with mixed classes, they do it by leg for a while now.

"Policy for miles redemption with intermediate point/stopover:
- In case of same cabin class and one intermediate point that does not exceed the 24 hours, the required miles for redemption are calculated as one segment, ...
....
- In case of different cabin class and one stopover regardless of the duration, the required miles for redemption are calculated per Segment,..."

Ok, thank you for confirming this. First time playing with multiple classes in the same award. So would C-> C or F-> F still be acceptable under one award? Seems a bit harsh to charge for connections, however, the flight from CPH-FRA isn't too expensive anyway.

Yes, C-C or F-F would work as one award.

https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizen...s/index_en.htm this is what I am talking about. If you book often thru OTAs be sure you are not using their US website (or any other outside of EU) because that one might have the credit card charges

Didn't bother arguing for it...considering the time and route I was flying (as well as AC's mind-boggling rip-off fare prices for that route due to oligopoly), paying it was still a significantly better deal than buying a ticket straight out.

No OW award availability on direct SCL-MVD (~2 hours flight) on my dates and cash ticket is +400€. One has to get creative.

Solution: Star Alliance award

Avianca SCL-BOG 6h 7min
1h 55 transit in BOG
Avianca BOG-MVD 6h 37min

21000 miles + 68,63EUR in taxes booked online on A3 site.

Both legs in Business and arrival early AM to Montevideo saving ~100€ in the hotel bill as well + 12 hours on my happy place over the clouds
clifford79, PM2011 and GBobon like this.

I remember when this regulation came into practice, OTAs shifted from surcharges for payments with specific cards to discounts given on the cheapest card. So instead of 1 being free and other subject to charge, it's now all free except one, which is discounted. Apparently, it works for them as you can see this practice everywhere around on EU OTAs.

I am not big fan of booking using OTAs so I didnt pay attention how they extracharge now different payment methods. I am using OTA only when I have to force a booking in upgradable booking classes for A3 and cannot be done on A3 website

Redeemed an award ticket on a last minute (48 hours). Revenue tickets were on the high side, and award availability popped up so I took it.

Air China CA975 from PEK to SIN.

21,000 miles and 90 EUR in taxes.
