I used the Aeroplan Diamond rate to get the free breakfast. Best breakfast we ever had - highly recommend any rate that includes breakfast. Because it is really expensive. We used our "authentic local dining" experience here - which was basically a free dinner for two (all in - including a couple glasses of wine) at the Bistro. Best value we ever got out of the certificates because of the cost of food in Montreaux in general. It was a great meal too. Amount was charged to our room and then taken off by the front desk at check-out.

Our favorite Fairmont ever and our favorite use of suite upgrade and 'local authentic dining' experience certficates. Going to try to get back before the certs are gone forever.
If you want to return, you should try and go back in the summer. Montreux is beautiful any time of year, but the summer is especially nice. And no kidding about the breakfast. If it wasn't included in my rate, I'm not sure I would have paid what they were asking. The breakfast was great, but certainly not inexpensive (even by Swiss standards). I also love the extra wide guest hallways, so the ladies in their fancy wide hoop dresses could pass!

I never thought about the wide hoop dresses! Of course that is why the hallways were so wide. Our 4 year old loved them - he blasted around the hotel at full speed all the time. Will take your advice - hoping to go back this summer.

Just finished a 3 night stay here, at the end of our Swiss trip. We stayed at some really nice luxury hotels on this trip, and this one completely faultered. The service was horrendous. We upgraded to a lakeview suite, which was stunning, but the good stay ended at the nice room. Service wise I wasn't sure if I was at a 5 star hotel or a Holiday Inn. Won't be back. We felt like we went from wonderful Swiss service on the rest of the trip to awful, arrogant French service at this hotel.

Typically, your comment would be more credible if it includes more details. Otherwise, the lack of details may come across as ranting without reason.

Fairmont Montreux Palace = Solid Hotel Without Need for Loyalty Program Benefits (17 Photos)

Fairmont Le Montreux Palace

I booked a 5-night stay at Fairmont Montreux to use my very last Fairmont Platinum suite upgrade certificate ever.  Unfortunately this hotel does not have a lounge, and in addition Fairmont does not provide free breakfast for guests with elite status unlike other hotel chains.  However the fact that I could use a suite upgrade on top of a low Black Friday sale, the use 20% off gift cards, plus a couple of free night certs made it worthwhile to book there.  I had high expectations and I my expectations were exceeded.

Location

The location of the hotel is excellent, within walking distance of the main train station and right on the main street by the lake, giving easy access to the nice 4km pedestrian path on the lake all the way from the hotel to the Chillon Castle.

Room

Not that it matters anymore now that suite upgrade certs will be dead in a couple of weeks, but as far as I know these certs would normally get the junior suite.  However the hotel was generous enough to upgrade me to the signature suite instead. That is a sign of goodwill which is not necessarily related to the certs; this behavior can create repeat customers even when certs no longer exist.  Our suite had great lake and mountain views from the bedroom and the living room, both of those rooms being separated by very large sliding doors. There is a balcony in front of each room; actually it’s just one large balcony that you can access either via the bedroom or living room.

IMG_2235.jpegIMG_2236.jpeg

Near the entrance there is a sizeable half bathroom, in addition to the full bathroom off the bedroom.  I liked that the shower was large, although I had a flooding issue because the door would not close tightly and the shower head was not very stable.  Also water temperature was changing frequently which is not unheard of in older hotels.  Most modern hotels have high ceilings, and this being an older style hotel I expected something more cramped.  The complete opposite is true here: the ceilings are very high, far more so than in regular hotels even newer ones.  The grandiose feeling is similar in the hotel public spaces such as corridors and meeting rooms.  Also I would note that compared to other chateau-style hotels, the rooms in Montreux were in great condition and obviously renovated recently.  I thought the room was considerably better than rooms at other historical Fairmonts I have been to in Canada before, such as Banff and Ottawa, and to a lesser extent Mont Tremblant, Montebello, and Charlevoix.

IMG_2224.jpegIMG_2226.jpegIMG_2227.jpegIMG_2228.jpegIMG_2229.jpegIMG_2230.jpeg

Amenities

I was a bit surprised to find Molton Brown amenities rather than the standard Le Labo.

IMG_2231.jpeg

Dining

Breakfast was not included in my rate but I still had some Platinum dining vouchers which were expiring soon.  The restaurant for breakfast is very nice with a window ceiling and view of the lake, however it was quite crowded when we went there so not the most peaceful and enjoyable breakfast.  Food was excellent quality for European hotel breakfast standards. Fruits were not only standard hotel fruits but also mangoes, blackberries, blueberries, etc.  For hot options in addition to regular breakfast items they also had rösti, steamed vegetables, and traditional Swiss chicken white sausages. Overall an above average breakfast but at 40 CHF per person I would probably be hesitant to spend my own money every day of a long stay for it.  I guess I am used to having free breakfast as Platinum/Diamond/Globalist with other chains; once you get used to a perk, I guess you get spoiled and you don’t enjoy not having it anymore!

Hotel Bar

We used the Platinum welcome drink vouchers in the hotel bar.  They had a decent selection and we enjoyed our Bellini cocktails.

IMG_2282.jpegIMG_2283.jpeg

Service

Service in the hotel was what you would expect from a Fairmont, and even more so in Switzerland.  Everything was done right including housekeeping doing a perfect job, quickly and efficiently even when we asked to have it done at a very precise time while we stepped out of the hotel only for 45 minutes.

Overall

Overall Fairmont Montreux is a solid hotel which I can recommend.  There is not much competition from other hotel chains in that area which means once there are no more Platinum certificates to use, this Fairmont should do just fine.  We won’t have the benefit of using free night certs and suite upgrades but this hotel will remain at the top of my list anyway.  This is in contrast with other excellent Fairmonts in cities with stiff competition that will be affected when there are no more suite upgrades, free breakfast, etc. while competitors give all that plus lounge access.   I wish there were more Fairmonts like the one in Montreux, in fact I am surprised it is the only one in all of Switzerland which would seem to be an ideal market for this brand with historical properties and good service at an upscale price.

Is it correct that this hotel does not provide any Diamond benefits, such as breakfast on weekends? I also noticed SNUs cannot be applied.

Where did you see that? They used to have pretty good SNU value, so if they're excluded now, then that is very new. I also don't see where other benefits are excluded. Do you have a link to something saying that?

when i tried to make a booking through the Accor app (SNU selected), it gives me a message that says “we’re sorry, this destination will not allow you to use your suite night upgrade”

i tried other random dates (and checking first that there is room/suite availability for $) and i got the same message.

regarding the other benefits - this was the impression that i got from reading the previous posts in this thread, might be my mistake

Until your post, the most recent post in this thread was from before there even was an ALL Diamond status. And when I search for rates, I'm seeing rates that include Diamond Weekend Breakfast.

As for the SNUs, I wonder of there's a problem with the system. I'm not able to get any SNU at any hotels at all right now. I suspect it's the stellar Accor IT doing what they do best.

thanks for clarifying regarding the benefits.

regarding the SNU - I managed to book the Raffles Warsaw earlier today using a SNU. Will try again tomorrow for the Fairmont or I’ll just reach out to them to ask for clarification

I don't see any reason why free weekend breakfast would not be offered to Diamond guests. I did not get free breakfast in early 2019 when I stayed as per my review above, but free weekend breakfast did not exist back then.

Now there is zero availability at all, with an error message from the hotel saying they're updating their website.

Hopefully, when done whatever they're doing, the SNUs can be used again.

I managed to make a SNU booking for Fairmont Geneva this morning, worked all fine. Still same error message for Fairmont Montreaux (SNU cannot be used for this property), for any date. Contacted Accor, let’s see what they say.

When I stayed at Geneva last year, I didn't bother with a SNU, because they were very poor value. Has that changed? I don't think you could get any suite with a lake view at all, when using a SNU there.

I still can't get the ALL website to work at all, so I can't even check rates, much less make a booking!

I hope Montreux gets fixed, because it's a better property than Geneva, and the SNU value and suites they could be applied to was excellent.

Yes you can book a Deluxe Suite (60m2) for the price of a Fairmount Double Room with Lake View.

it said that the original rate was 1950 CHF, while I got it for 554 CHF

but you are right - no suite with lake view. Two junior suites (city or courtyard view) + deluxe suite with courtyard view
