This is the 4th Fairmont in China. For the record the others are:

Fairmont Yangcheng Lake Hotel in Kunshan, China
The Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, China
Fairmont Macao in Cotai Strip Macao, China (also a Raffles)

Along with the Raffles Beijing Hotel and the Raffles Tianjin FPC members have several great options now in China.

Fairmont Beijing

The Fairmont Beijing is opening this September. Anyone have any information about the property other than what is available through the Fairmont website? Anyone been to Beijing recently and stopped by the Fairmont to see how construction is going, etc.? Trying to decide whether to stay there in October, or at Westin Financial Street. Thanks!

We just made a reservation there for October 16-21 and it was actually less expensive to book the regular bed and breakfast rate for those days than to take advantage of the rate you get when you put in the free night code. Plus, that rate doesn't include breakfast. I think it is a good rate if you are staying two nights (one paid, one free), but the more nights you stay the less it is worth it.

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts Opening Hotel in Beijing

http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/...0News/2416779/

[i]The world-known luxury hotel operator Fairmont Hotels & Resorts yesterday announced the cooperation with Reignwood Group on the establishment of their joint-venture hotel in the central business district (CBD) of Beijing. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has a history of more than one century with its operations mainly in North America. Reignwood Group, formed by Dr. Yan Bin, an overseas Chinese, in Thailand in 1984, has made a strong presence in such fields as sports, property development & management, functional beverages, hospitality, lifestyle and mining.

Obviously, both sides have been attracted greatly by the huge catering market of Beijing. The retail value of the market jumped 18.8% from a year earlier to CNY 3.94 billion in May 2009, and the total sales revenue for the period from January to May amounted to CNY 18.82 billion, rising 13.3%.

In the first four months of this year, high-grade business restaurants incurred a sales volume decrease of at least 10%, according the Ministry of Commerce. In May, however, their sales volume tended to go up.

Beijing

Has anyone stayed at the Beijing property yet? It was meant to open 15 Aug, then 15 July. I plan to be there in late August. Just looking for first thoughts on this new place.

Hi!

Can you expand on that - there was a fire at the hotel? Did anyone get hurt?

I beleive the fire was at the new Mandirin Oriental, not the Fairmont.
