Mercure Porto Centro Hotel

What is your Le Club status?
Gold

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked standard, received upgrade to Privilege

How are the rooms?

The room (as well as the common areas of the hotel) has been recently renovated with a decoration inspired by the Oporto city and its monuments.

What was good and what was bad?

Good: Perfect location in the city center and renovated rooms.

Bad: The hotel car parking is paid (11 per day) and very limited.

Welcome drinks, amenities or any other special perks?

Two drinks, no welcome gifts.

Value for money? Would you return?
I think the cost benefit was good, maybe return to this hotel.

I am happy to learn that they have renovated this hotel. It was clearly needed. You might be interested to read my short review of a stay in sept 2015.

I am planning to stay there next weekend. I hope to have a renovated room.

Been not around for quite long so I would only review some of my stays from the last quarter.

- Name of the hotel:
Mercure Jakarta Cikini

- What is your Le Club status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Quite happy

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked superior room; upgraded to privilege. On the last night I asked for paid upgrade to Suite since my parents come around; quite good bargain for the paid upgrade since the hotel only calculates the price difference between my upgraded room and Suite.

- How are the rooms?
Privilege room basically has the same size and appearance with the Superior room with upgraded benefits free minibar and blank blank (which I found it later during check-out since it was not advertised on the website).

- What was good and what was bad?
Good: I like the way they setup the special table for Le Club Elite members so I don't have to queue and standing while check-in, breakfasts were good, polite staffs, excellent location.
Bad: Actually I was wondering why the price difference between the superior room and privilege was so high for Indonesian standard (IDR 200,000), considering the free mini-bars only consist of 3 drinks and 1 snack. Upon check-out, I was greeted by a friendly duty manager on the hotel asking how was my stay. I told him that I liked the hotel and would be excellent if the hotel has an afternoon tea like some other Mercure in Indonesia. Then he suddenly shocked and apologized; he then told me that anyone who booked or stayed at privilege rooms upward should be entitled afternoon tea and light snacks benefit. Lol..Now that makes the price difference reasonable. Couple weeks after I checked-out, the hotel now displays that the privilege room comes with afternoon tea benefit.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
N/A but they have afternoon tea benefit for those who stayed on privilege rooms and suite.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Received my welcome drink vouchers (2x for two adults). Fruits (oranges and grapes), some chocolates, and light snacks.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Good value for money and would return to claim my afternoon tea benefits.

- Name of the hotel:
Ibis Makassar City Center

- What is your Le Club status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Very Happy

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Since there's only one type of the room so no upgrade. However, I got nice view to the sea.

- How are the rooms?
Like other Ibis in the world; standard room size (16-17 sqm).

- What was good and what was bad?
Good: While there's nothing special with the brand. But the services were way beyond other Ibis I've stayed though I rarely stay at Ibis . From check-in, redeeming welcome drink vouchers, having breakfast and lunch at the restaurant, and check-out; all the staffs greeted me by mentioning my name. I believe it's because of the new GM of the hotel who has just moved from other hotel in other chains which I frequently stayed (and also Platinum there). Therefore I believe that the new GM asked his staffs to go extra miles and recognizing the elite member faces because it's also the same experiences that I had during my stay at his former hotel. ^

Bad: None (except small room like other Ibis which I already expected)

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Received my welcome drink vouchers (2x for two adults). I used it during lunch so I don't have to order any drinks while having lunch.
Got welcome fruits on the room. There's also welcome notes with my photo attached on the notes. Probably got from my social media.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Really great value. For such great services, surely would return.

Thanks Goldorak. Miss you all here.

Here are more updated reviews:

- Name of the hotel:

Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara

- What is your Le Club status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
So-so

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Junior Suite and got the same. The funny thing is upon checked-in I was congratulated by Front Office and announced that my room has been upgraded to Junior Suite. Then I told him that my original booking is Junior Suite.

- How are the rooms?
Luxurious and spacious. no complaint at all.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good: Excellent breakfast. Location is within walking distance to the nearest MRT station.

Bad: Since the location is within building complex so it might confusing Uber drivers especially the hotel is still new. And the hotel location is not within the city center area.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
Yes. The Club Millsime provides Le Gouter French afternoon tea from 3 pm to 5 pm (can't distinguish with the English Afternoon tea), Evening Cocktails from 6 pm to 8 pm. The foods were very good; but the service was so-so...not the typical Sofitels. However, the service at the lobby bar was excellent.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Just realized that I haven't received my welcome drink voucher during check-in so I got it on the next day; got two vouchers (valid for 4 persons) from different persons. I told that I already got mine but they told me as a gesture of apologize so I got two instead. Got fruit platter, box of chocolate but no welcome letter for Platinum Member.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Still quite good value of money; would return but only if my hotel main choice were not available.

- Name of the hotel:

Htel ibis Chartres Ouest Luce

- What is your Le Club status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes. Very easy to find just near main roads (also close to supermarket and filling station 24h). Short drive from Dieppe and Calais. Outside town, but that’s an advantage if you just using it for a one night stop over. The other Ibis is closer, and the Mercure is best situated. The Novotel is also outside town.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked a smoking room! – So was on top floor and in the un renovated part of the hotel.

- How are the rooms?

Smoking allowed rooms ok, but in need to full refurbishment. Rest of hotel very clean and well presented. Think when the hotel is due to be refurbished the smoking rooms will disappear. Could not gain access to fitness center.
- What was good and what was bad?

No lift.

Very secure car park, and nice friendly staff. Hotel always seems full. Can be a problem gaining access to the hotel very late at night due to staff having to pro-actively listen for the car park buzzer.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?

Two welcome drinks – beer or soft drink or coffee.
- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Yes. It is about 3 hours driving from the UK, and a good place to break the trip for us going south.

Yes. No problems. Very quiet location despite a few miles from airport. Free weekday shuttle (or 30€ taxi). Free inside car parking and outside carpark.
- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, upgraded to Premium. – They do Junior Suites – but only two in hotel
- How are the rooms?
Free non alcohol mini bar. Clean and tidy.

Easy access to airport (but check shuttle times as outside the taxi service is a bit expensive). Large outside pool in the summer.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
N/A

- Name of the hotel:

Ibis Christchurch

- What is your Le Club status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked cheapest room, received next category (Larger bed, high floor).

- How are the rooms?
Modern, albeit basic. Not huge, however this is an Ibis Property.

- What was good and what was bad?
Clean, tidy rooms.
Clean tidy restaurant.
Centrally located.

Good:
Rooms, internet, $1 breakfast rate.

Bad:

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
Not applicable.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Welcome Drink Vouchers for bar. House beer/Wine/soft drink. Used for espresso Coffees for breakfast.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Can be value for money, can be horrendously expensive.
2x nights for ~$320 prepaid online.
$1 breakfast offer is a great offer, and would like to see this extended more regularly. Perhaps a new Platinum member benefit?
Unfortunately usually priced too high to be accommodated for my business travel, and would rather stay at the Novotel in close vicinity when staying in Christchurch and having to subsidize out of my own pocket.
Cheaper to burn points than Novotel, however when paying, the difference is usually ~$60 a night so would rather stay here.

- Name of the hotel:
Mercure Nice Grimaldi

- What is your Le Club status?
Gold

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
It was OK, not memorable in any ways but not terrible either.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard, upgraded to Privilege.

- How are the rooms?
Small, no chair, no desk, power plugs in awkward locations. Absolutely terrible for business travel, for leisure this is fine as if you do want a room just to sleep. As a privilege room there was a Nespresso machine and free mini bar. It also has a iPad/iPhone/Bluetooth speaker but the sound was terrible and poor quality, so useless.

- What was good and what was bad?

Good:
- The location is good, 5 minutes out of the Promenade, 2 minutes from several walking area with plenty of restaurants, easy access to the airport (Bus 98 has a stop 5 minutes away). The hotel is in a small quiet side street.

Meh:
- The last morning, I requested a late checkout for 15:00. I was refused due to lack of availability. As the hotel was far from full (based on breakfast I would say they had less than 10 rooms booked) I enquire. They just replied "I checked with the staff at the morning briefing and we do not offer it today". Well I pointed out that this was a published benefit and the excuse of lack of availability is not acceptable considering the occupancy. 10 minutes later when I was upstair brushing my teeth the reception called to inform me I was granted a late checkout until 14:00. So I did get a benefit I needed but I had to push.
- Poor breakfast buffet (but I did appreciate the choice of local pastries)

Bad:
- No bar, no gym

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Given one welcome drink vouchers. no welcome gifts or other. I did not had welcome gifts in my last 4 stays, has those being discontinued ?

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Probably not.

Very nice for an ibis. Different decor and a proper bathroom.

Welcome drink (small beer/wine/soft drink).
