Review of Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach

- Name of the hotel: Pullman Phuket Arcadia Naithon Beach

- What is your Le Club status? Platinum and 4 Other Silver members

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Definitely

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Personally booked Deluxe room and got confirmed upgrade to Ocean room as per my communication with the hotel. (Was doing a family trip which we booked 8 rooms all together, only the direct member room got upgrade from Deluxe to Ocean, the rest remained with what they booked)

- How are the rooms? As usual, sizable rooms with good ocean views (Block 3) and upkeep of rooms were excellent. No obvious wear and tear issue which was pleasing.

- What was good and what was bad?

Good: Service at the resort is excellent as expected. Was recognized by many old staff and the GM took the opportunity to introduce himself to us. Had direct contact with the DOR throughout the stay. F&B has improved drastically as they have a new chef. Food was good last time but now even better! Almost had all my meals in the hotel.

Additionally, hotel now gives Platinum members a breakfast platter daily on top of the buffet breakfast (Pictures will come in the full review.) Also received 2 welcome amenity. 1 usual and another thanking me for my loyalty. I must say that Platinum recognition here is excellent. By far the best I have personally encountered.

Bad: Pool tiles issue is better than last time but still an issue as they are in the midst of doing the repairs at night. The 2 complimentary espresso capsules are still a ruling, thus no change there.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? No lounge still! They said they were planning to build one 2 years ago.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks? Welcome drinksproactively given to all 8 rooms. The usual Soft Drinks, Mocktails, Cocktails, wines and hard liquor.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return? Definitely, the DOR ensured my family trip was seamless and no hipcups encountered throughout my stay. In fact, on my last night, was upgraded to the 2 Bedroom Pool villa to try when I was jokingly asking if I could see it. Kudos to the excellent service at this hotel. Full review to come soon!

Novotel Beijing Sanyuan

- Name of the hotel:Novotel Sanyaun, Beijing

- What is your Le Club status? Plat

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Deluxe King > Suite

- How are the rooms?
Large-ish suite with a decent sized bathroom

- What was good and what was bad?

Good:
Location is easily access from PEK with the express train or taxi (when traffic is moving). A small mini lounge serves beer/wine and small nibbles in the evening.

Bad:
- The hotel is very popular with Australian tour groups, I leave it at that.
- English is a challenge at times with staff

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge?
Yes, limited but this is a Novotel.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks?
Nothing was prepared, drinks voucher was issued at check in. Fruit platter was sent up within the hour.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return?
Good value. Would consider it again (at the moment Beijing is very limited for Le Club members).

ibis Gatwick Airport

- Name of the hotel: ibis Gatwick Airport

- What is your Le Club status? Gold

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Standard Twin Room. No upgrade available - one category hotel.

- How are the rooms? Fine - average ibis size and clean.

- What was good and what was bad?

Good: Easy transfer to Gatwick Airport in the morning which was hassle free. Decent restaurant and bar.

Bad: The location is great for the airport but is otherwise out of the way and as such the in-house restaurant is your only real option without getting a taxi.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks? Drinks voucher for two people issued at check in. No other amenities but nothing else expected.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return? Good value, especially in comparison to closer but worse hotels of a similar level around Gatwick.

Very dissapointing. But really I wish more people would stand their ground an insist on their benefits because they are in the wrong and they are risking their job by refusing what they promised (Accor terms and aggreements) to a platinium member. And if the hotel management is encouraging this poor Service then Accor will likely drop them or one would hope. I know it is an effort but firstly you get the benefit eventually and you can give a very low rating on trip advisor which Accor monitors.

- Name of the hotel: Pullman Fontana Stuttgart

- What is your Le Club status? Gold

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Lukewarm

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Booked standard room. The check-in agent First assigned me that category. I pointed out this was not an upgrade and the dance started; blaming lack of availability, countered by showing that all categories were up for sale, etc... I got reluctantly upgraded to a Deluxe room.

- How are the rooms? Old and dated, not enough power plug, real need of a refurbishment.

- What was good and what was bad?

Good: I choose this as an airport hotel and this fits the bill. It is midway between Mitte and the airport, with a S-bahn station literally at the hotel door.

Bad: Poor service in general, for example I got lukewarm water for my tea at breakfast. Note this was corrected once I pointed it out.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks? Drinks voucher issued. No welcome gift.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return? Bof. The hotel is relatively cheap but there must be better airport hotel. I had a word with the assistant manager about the poor recognition and I got some corporate this is not our value but no apologies nor proposal to redress.

Lest people accuse me of never giving credit, I always do when I have a good experience.

- Name of the hotel: Novotel Taipei Taoyuan International Airport

- What is your Le Club status? Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Booked standard room got upgraded to suite

- How are the rooms? Perfectly fine. Spacious suite with large bathroom. View on airport which a plane geek like me appreciates.

- What was good and what was bad?

Good: Great check-in experience, recognition, all perks received (including room upgrade) without asking. Should always be like this. Hotel is on MRT line so easy access to airport and Taipei. Will definitely consider this hotel when I return for a longer stay in Taiwan. Seems like a very nice country.

Bad: Somewhat expensive, that's it.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? Have club access but only staying one short night.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks? Welcome drink, 1/2 bottle of Bordeaux, fruit and cheese plate plus snacks. Very nice for Novotel.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return? Yes

Also very different catgeories. Mid range hotel (1 level above budget categorys) vs Luxury level hmm well I think that explains it.

- Name of the hotel: Ibis Tokyo Shinjuku

- What is your Le Club status? Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Ibis so all the same rooms However was upgraded to double from single which was much appreciated.

- How are the rooms? Very small (this is Tokyo after all) but fully functional. Very comfortable bed (I like them hard).

- What was good and what was bad?

Good: Great check-in experience, recognition, all perks received (including room upgrade) without asking. Have to say I am impressed by Accor in Asia, if it was only the same everywhere else. Perhaps this is the target for Accor, I certainly hope so. Great location as well.

Bad: Can`t think of anything really. Breakfast is pretty basic but I did not pay so cannot complain.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? N/A

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks? Welcome drink, 2 large bottles of water (do not know if this is standard). Everything was ready in advanced.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return? I got a fantastic rate on a 40% private sale so definitely got my $ worth. Would still consider if travelling alone at higher price.

- Name of the hotel: Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara

- What is your Le Club status? Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Yes. First time in this hotel.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Luxury Room, 1 King size bed upgraded to Junior Suite

- How are the rooms? Hotel is almost one year old. Suite still in excellent condition. Elegant. Modern. Very comfortable.

- What was good and what was bad?

Good: Did mobile check in and received SMS at around 11 am to say room was ready and that I should go to Club desk. On arrival Concierge escorted me to available Lobby Front Desk Agent who asked my name and immediately asked the Concierge to escort me to Club Lounge. Excellent check in. All Platinum benefits explained. Welcome envelope given with Benefits Sheet, hand written Welcome Note from Director of Rooms, and one drink voucher which I used in the Lobby bar. New GM apparently arriving next week. MRT station about ten minutes walk away. Two stops to KL Central Station. Five stops to main Bukit Bintang shopping area station. Lanvin toiletries.

Bad: Nothing important. Phone line to Guest Services extremely weak but that will surely be corrected. Currently technical problem prevents lift card security in lifts but that will also be corrected.

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? Yes. Wonderful. Breakfast, snacks during the day, afternoon personal platter of pastries and savories from 3 pm to 5 pm, cocktails from 6 pm to 8 pm. Large selection of alcoholic drinks on display. Extensive drink menu. Platinum guests also allowed to eat breakfast in Lobby buffet restaurant. Club Lounge menu consists of both buffet and a la carte menu.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks? One Welcome drink voucher, four largish bottles of water in room . . . Sofitel branded. Attractive fruit platter and small box of pralines waiting in room.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return? Would definitely return. Used 2,000 points to make the rate reasonable.

The Sofitel Damansara is our corporate hotel (as well as the Pullman KLCC).

Good reports from all my guests who have stayed there so far. New GM is a area GM so brings wealth of information as well. Previous GM has gone to Pullman Yangon

Chinese restaurant is very nice.

- Name of the hotel: Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16

- What is your Le Club status? Gold

- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Mostly

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Superior Room Club Sofitel. Upgraded to Luxury Room Club Sofitel

- How are the rooms? Room was a good size and the finishings were of good quality.

- What was good and what was bad?

Good: Escorted from the lobby (before even reaching the front desk) to the Club Floor and seted in the Lounge whilst the staff checked us in and served drinks. Decent room with good views over the river. The Pool and fitness areas were very smart with sauna and steam room. Excellent, attentive staff - especially on the club floor.

Bad: Despite being a non-smoking room, it smelled of smoke. The smell promptly made my pregnant wife - who is obviously extra sensitive to smells right now - sick. There were no other available rooms on the club floor so the staff tried some deodorising sprays which only vaguely worked. Disappointing they did not have a proper machine - we recently had the same issue in the JW Marriott Cannes and they were able to bring a special deodorising machine in which, after running for a couple of hours, eradicated the smell. I would hope a hotel of Sofitel standard would invest in things as simple but effective as this. Also, threat of fine for smoking in room was only 1500MOP which is €160. To many people who stay in 5 star hotels, this is nothing and certainly not enough to act as a deterrent. How often does a hotel actually follow through with a charge any way?

- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? Included in rate as only Gold. Lounge was excellent. It was located overlooking the old city of Macau and has excellent views. The afternoon tea service was excellent and the evening buffet was extensive with a great alcohol selection. Breakfast was equally as good with a la carte and buffet options. Overall the lounge was a comfortable, atmospheric place to spend time, whether working or for leisure.

- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks? Welcome drink voucher for two people to use at their Lobby bar (limited menu for voucher redemption but i had everything we would have wanted off the main menu anyway). Welcome gift of fruit platter and sweets. Late check out asked for and granted with a smile.

- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return? Really good value rate for the excellent facilities. We will return. The smoke issue is something that could be described as a one off, whereas the positives are all things that could be expected every time.
