Honestly getting a bowl of fruit in Asia is really poor for anything above the mid range hotels. When you go for holiday you are usually wanting to treat yourself.. A bowl of fruit is hardly exciting.

I believe you get a kettle some drunken lout hasn't taken a sh*t in, which is about as good a benefit as you can hope for at an Ibis !
Except perhaps the Ibis Singapore Novena - though I would still check the kettle !

Interesting welcome amenity at the Novotel London Bridge last week - there was a welcome note with an envelope containing a second drink voucher. They had already given me my normal voucher on check-in so I assume this was a welcome gift! Maybe they had run out of the usual water and chocolates? As I had dinner with colleagues, I had trouble finding time to use it and ended up having a quick coke before leaving the next morning.

I also was given a connecting room but someone had forgotten to lock the interconnecting doors. Thankfully there was no-one booked in the next room. I am assuming this free extra hotel room wasn't part of the welcome amenity!

Hotel: Grand Mercure Danang (Vietnam)
Status: Platinum

Superior room, upgraded to higher floor with Dragon Bridge view.

Hotel: Pullman Danang Beach Resort (Vietnam)
Status: Platinum

From 2 x 1 bed room cottage, got upgraded to 2 bedroom ocean view cottage, but we moved back to our 1 bed room cottage due to thin curtain in the 2 bedroom cottage. Got a nice pool/beach view anyway.

Both hotels were fantastic

Also got a standard welcome drink from their fridge.

Novotel Maastricht
Instead of a welcome amenity in the room I got a voucher (separate from the drink) for a little snack in the bar. Very nice touch I must say.

Novotel Sarajevo Bristol

Quite generous for a Gold member: chocolate fondue, dried fruit, macarons and other chocolates.

Mercure Kensington London. Platinum Status.

Mercure Kensington London. It’s a blank square because I got nothing, zero, zip. Not even a welcome drink. The hotel leaves a LOT to be desired.

Very nice. We'll be in Sarajevo end July. Very excited.
Decided to stay at the Swissotel though.

That good, Swissotel is closer to the centre and brand new. I booked my stay at the Novotel a long time ago, when Swissotel didn't exist yet
