Pre-Arrival
I just came from London and landed at Orly aiport after taking CityJet from London City Airport and since I was travelling to Lourdes the next day, I wanted to stay in a hotel in Paris but not right in the middle of Paris. Thus settled for the brand new Mercure Paris Alesia which was located directly next to Porte d'Orleans metro stop. Getting to the hotel was so easy as it was located less then 50m from the metro enterance/exit.
To be very honest, I was somewhat skeptical of booking the hotel as there was not much Tripadvisor reviews of the hotel nor real pictures of the hotel as most of them was graphic design photos on the website.
Check In
I arrived around 3pm at the hotel and checked in for my mother (She was coming in from Iceland and would land at CDG around 5pm so I emailed the hotel in advance requesting I check in on behalf of her earlier so that I can rest in the room first)
As you can see, the hotel lobby is very small as it only had about 80+ rooms however the staff were all just wonderful and friendly. As Gold memebr, they kindly upgraded us to the Privilege Room with a double bed without me asking for the upgrade. (Like finally, I would have thought I needed to ask)
Room
We were gievn a room on the 5th floor, room 502. What surprised me most was that this was my first trip to Paris (my mum last trip was at least 5 years back) and I expected the rooms to be tiny and compact, but boy was I wrong, it was actully quite spacious for my standard, it even had a sofa. (although I have never really seen a small room in Paris yet)
The room was well appointed with nice design. The room we were in had extra privileges such as complimentary mini bar and upgraded amenties.
Dining
We booked a rate that included breakfast at the hotel. I honestly did not expect much since this was such a small hotel and would guess the operation would be small. Indeed I was correct, variety was not there but quality was definetly there for sure. There were 2 hot dishes which were scrambled eggs and sasuages.
Amenities
When we were there, we were told a small lounge area was being constructed for guest to relax in. I must be honest, it was quite nice although I am not sure how to explain this area. Thus, I will let the pictures to the talking.
Overall
Overall I must say that this hotel was a good chice for my 1 night layover. Everything still smelled new and the service was great. Location wise, the hotel was not that bad as it was located close to the metro, however if I were to be in Paris for sightseeing, I would't stay here and would stay somewhere closer to the city centre. However if you need to be in the Porte d'Orleans area. I would reccomend the hotel for sure.
Thanks for the review. I've been considering staying at this hotel.
