Ibis Styles Brisbane
I am not sure what the Ibis and Mecure brands involve elsewhere but up until recently in Australia it meant the following:
Mecure: Old 70's and 80's built properties that hadn't been given much love.
Ibis: An Ibis Budget but with a bar and restaurant, often with air con that quits if it actually has to work more than three hours.
Like the Mecure Newcastle airport, and the Ibis Adelaide, the Brisbane property is a new build. Rooms are smallish (no room for a sofa or even a single couch) but very functional in design and quiet. Aircon works well and doesn't quit at 1am, breakfast is free and the restaurant offers good choices for collect yourself meals outside of breakfast hours.
I can see why the three star segment is getting a lot of focus from the chains, at $100 a night the Ibis Styles actually has a lot of style, without the sticker shock.
Hot breakfast is an additional $15 supplement though which I thought was a bit steep considering they only had bacon, sausage and eggs on offer and more than adequate continental breakfast is on for free . But the location is so great that if you really wanted a hot breakfast and don't want to stick to the continental offering, there are plenty of choices around the hotel!

Cross the road to the Treasury Casino:
Early Riser Breakfast
The perfect start to your day - scrambled eggs, pork sausage, crispy bacon, cooked tomato and a side serve of baked beans - all for a penny pinching $12!
Available daily from 5.30am - 10.30am at Kitchen at Treasury.
Absolute Rewards discounts available*:
Seniors | Red Tier + 10%
Pearl Tier 20%
Black Tier 30%
Just bring a thermos of coffee with you from The Ibis
Otherwise the hotel is great and the small rooms are compensated for by the expansive views over the river if lucky enough to get a decent upgrade which I was.
Other minor bugbear is they charged the credit card surcharge twice on an AP rate that should not have had it charged once - didn't notice till I had left but will follow up with them next time I am in Brisbane . I hate those credit card surcharges
And while I am on minor bugbears - they had an offer of 250 bonus points if you spent $20 in the restaurant. Didn't post

Ibis Styles Brisbane
Location
Located right in the shopping precinct of Brisbane, the Ibis Styles is just over a year old and was purpose built from scratch. It's the closest Accor property to the Queens st Mall and adjacent to the Myer Centre which has a plethora of eating and entertainment options on offer. With the heritage listed Tresaury Casino the tallest building between the hotel and the river, even many of the lower floors should offer a good view of the river and Southbank entertainment precinct.
Check In
Despite being a regular my booking was somehow lost, a quick look on the app soon located the reference and checkin commenced. As a result checkin did take some time, but I was soon heading up to my room.
Room
I was lucky enough to score a top floor room overlooking the river. Rooms have been designed to make the most of a small space without missing anything you need. There is a TV (with an annoying lack of voice sync even after a year of opening), phone, kettle, along with some hanging space for clothes and a fridge.
The bathrooms are of a good size and unlike other Ibis hotels, don't have that portaloo feel where you imagine the cleaning method involves a hose out.
In fact overall the room is more reflective of a Mercure than an Ibis, and speaking with staff there was some consternation during the design and construct phase as to what brand would be best suited, rightly or wrongly Ibis won. As with other cities, there is more than one Ibis in the CBD so it's important to mention it's the Styles, the Ibis is not far away but around forth years older in design.
Dining
A dining room is located on level 1 , where you can get your free breakfast and light meals outside of breakfast as well as snacks or drinks. Full breakfast is usually a paid upgrade and expensive for what's offered.
Room service is also offered in the form of call and collect, ie DYI room service in a way.
Service
Being an Ibis Styles there is limited opportunities to review service as such, although the staff are always friendly and keen to help. I have had a number of small issues with the hotel, this trip was not the first where my reservation went into a black hole, and sometimes the free breakfast sales by Accor end up not being recorded as a full breakfast offer at the hotel.
Overall
This is an excellent hotel for those looking for a bed and a nice room, with a view of you are lucky. The lower end of the hotel market is getting competitive in Brisbane, as there is a four points already, and as of today a Holiday Inn Express is open, all new builds. So far this hotel has been a price leader in the segment while having the best locale. It's been built well to help reduce the chance of outside noise disturbing your stay.
Highly recommended.
It seems that Brand Standards aren't standard
