I wanted to book it and before that enquired about it to our friend <strong>Virtualaris</strong>&nbsp;who strongly recommended it to me (thank you <strong>Virtualaris</strong>). This hotel is conveniently located downtown Yogjakarta. I had booked the highest room category&nbsp;: the Legendary Suite with king size bed (so of course, no upgrade possible). Dining There is no club lounge, but free afternoon tea/coffee and small snacks are offered every afternoon at the bar.<img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_7808.JPG" style="height:800px; width:600px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_7807.JPG" style="height:800px; width:600px">Drink voucher was given and they have a special drink menu for what you can have with the voucher (nice touch), but as said above, many selections were not available or pretty poor after tasting and in this case the staff proposed any wine they had on the regular menu (very professionnal way to handle such a situation IMO).<img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5317.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5314.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5312.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5311.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5161.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5160.JPG" style="height:800px; width:533px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5159.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5158.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5157.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5155.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px">Also, they have some very good wines but also some horrible ones, particularly a very basic French one «&nbsp;cuvée spéciale&nbsp;» available in red and white (shame for me as a French&nbsp;!). But this is really the only «&nbsp;negative&nbsp;» point I have to say about my stay there. The food served&nbsp;was very good,&nbsp;although they they have a supply problem (true for the bar too) as many dishes and many wines on the menu were not available. And the staff doesn’t necessarily know about this so it can turn ridiculous and embarassing when you have 5 times «&nbsp;Sorry Sir, your apetizer is not available&nbsp;» followed 2 minutes later by «&nbsp;Sorry Sir, your main course is not available&nbsp;» and then «&nbsp;Sorry Sir, your wine is not available&nbsp;»… «&nbsp;Sorry Sir, your replacement wine is not available&nbsp;»…ArghhhhThe main restaurant has an inside and outside seating areas. You can have breakfast, lunch and dinner there. They do also serve snacks at the pool. Room <img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5139.JPG" style="height:800px; width:533px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5138.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5137.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5134.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5131.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5130.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5127.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5126.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5125.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5124.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5123.JPG" style="height:800px; width:533px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5122.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px">The Legendary Suite&nbsp;was fantastic, staff excellent and very friendly. Fruit platter and cakes were placed in the room with a welcome letter.&nbsp; The pool area <img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5148.JPG" style="height:533px; width:800px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_5147.JPG" style="height:800px; width:533px"><img alt="" src="/forum/hotelreview/uploads/userreviewimages/225231/images/IMG_7805.JPG" style="height:600px; width:800px"> Overall So an excellent Accor address in Indonesia with excellent value for money. Do not hesitate a second to stay there if you go to Yogyakarta. The hotel arranged well transportation to visit the local wonders (Borobudur and Prambanan temples) and at a reasonable price.

Wowwww, as usual...your reviews are exciting Goldorak! ^^^ I'm glad that you chose Phoenix MGallery Yogyakarta since it is my favorite hotel in Yogyakarta.

I agree that the food & drink selections on the hotel are not much varied, perhaps since Yogyakarta itself is culinary capital of Java so most of the people went out for food so the hotel tend to keep their food inventory as low as possible.

Anyway, did you try their legendary classic car? I haven't tried it yet but I heard that the experience was fascinating. :)

I have a fondness for MGallery properties and this one looks great and Yogyakarta is a worth a visit.

What would the classic dishes of Yogyakarta, @virtualaris? I'm extremely fond of Indonesian sambals.

Most of Yogyakarta's dishes are sweet but you could try Oseng-Oseng Mercon Bu Narti which is very spicy and tasty! You may also try Jejamuran; all of their dishes are made from mushrooms; including Pepes (mushroom is served in banana leaf package and cooked on steam), Tongseng (Surakarta dish which is usually made from beef/mutton stew in curry-like soup with vegetables and kecap manis), Satay (also made from mushroom). You may also try Waroeng SS (Spesial Sambal) which has several outlets in Yogyakarta. They have many varies of Sambals, perhaps around 20s different kind of Sambals. So, if you would like to try all of the sambals, perhaps you should visit it more than once. :p

The local dish in Yogyakarta is Gudeg. Do Google it and you can find the wiki for it.

The hotel has 2 buildings. The one reviewed by Goldorak is the extension building at the back. The original building is rather dated. You can see the pictures on my blog.

The rate for the car by the hotel is above the normal standard price. Well it is still consider cheap for the foreigners.

Do visit Taman Sari which is water castle behind the Keraton (Palace). I found it very interesting place.

Also Ratu Boko temple is a must visit place during sunset. It is just 15 minutes away from Prambanan. I found this place is more interesting than Borobudur at sun rise (also I hate to wake up so early during my holiday).

No. I wanted to do it for our return to the airport, but we needed to leave the hotel at 6 am and they have no driver at that time and so we had to take a regular cab.

Indeed, but this is true for any hotel in the world.

Mee too. You'll never see me at all those sunrise things...The only exception I did was in Bagan, Myanmar.

Goldorak, you miss Ratu Boko? The this is a good reason to come back to Yogyakarta again ;)

Adding onto virtualaris list of dishes, I'd like to add nasi brongkos (brongkos rice). They serve a very decent nasi brongkos too at the Phoenix.

Be careful when you are trying oseng-oseng mercon (mercon = fireworks). The way they prepare it is 1/4 portion meat mixed with 3/4 portion chili.

When in Yogyakarta, Bale Raos is well worth a visit or three. This restaurant's lovely ground is an extension of the keraton (sultan's palace), and is in fact owned by a member of royal family. They serve favorite dishes of current and past sultans and other royals.

Interesting review!

I just say i have driven past it many times but never actually looked inside.
Does the hotel serve jamu (javenese herbal tonics) at breakfast? I love those! I know the hyatt regency yogyakarta and crowne plaza semarang serve those.
