Pullman Saigon Centre

There's a separate thread on upgrades in Vietnam where I had previously shared some pictures of this hotel, but now that I have over 2 nights managed to try two more type of rooms, I thought I'd consolidate and post a new thread specifically for the Pullman Saigon Centre.

I have to say that this must be one of my favorite Accor properties.

The location of the hotel is quite central, approx a kilometer down the road from Ben Thanh Market. The hotel provides a complimentary shuttle service to several sights in HCMC.
It has 30 floors + rooftop, all rooms double glazed (so keeps out the noise quite well). The lobby is somewhat crammed and always busy.
The Exec Lounge and a Restaurant are on the 30th floor. Lounge is not huge, but adequate. It has a meeting room that seats 8 and complimentary for 1 hr per stay per room (and if you go beyond and they aren't booked, they let you stay on).
Lounge staff are very friendly, they have obviously been told to socialize and talk to you - which is nice if you are that sort who likes to chat; but sometimes you just want to be left alone and they dont really get the hint. But its ok

I travel on business and dont see the need for a large room - so I tend to book lowest room type which is here the Superior Room. With Plat they have always double upgraded me to a Executive Room.

https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3918/...3b5274c7_c.jpg

So on my recent trip, I decided to book the Executive Room to then have an upgrade to the Executive Suite - which is the same as what enzo0511 had posted pictures to in the "upgrades in Vietnam" thread.
Check in in the lounge didnt go too well at first as I was told "all full". So with the Accor app I checked and it did mention that I could book the Exec Suite. I was told that the suites are on the 29th floor and that floor would be blocked out the following day for maintenance.
However they did finally come through and offered to upgrade me to the Exec Suite for the first night and the Pullman Signature Suite for the second night "so you can try all our rooms".

So here are the pictures to the two suites.

Executive Suite:

And for the second night the Pullman Signature Suite which is normally reserved for Honeymoon couples... I took in all in by myself.

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8566/...f893a668_c.jpg

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7503/...1697f486_c.jpg

And finally, the location for your Welcome Drink. I've stayed in this hotel more than half a dozen times and wasnt aware that they had a rooftop - well, they only opened it last October, a year after the hotel opened.

So for those who are planning a trip to HCMC, I can really recommend this hotel!

Thanks for the review and pictures, fantastic suites...even the exec room looks nice, will have to see if work or play takes me to anywhere near here!

Splendid review, thanks a lot!

I don't really get how many hotels are so greedy with upgrades if there's clearly availability... Seems like an easy way to make status pax feel extremely welcome, without costing the hotel too much. Anyway, good on you for getting to the honeymoon suite in the end - even though it would probably be more fun with a companion ;)

Rooftop bar seems lovely though, any limitations on the welcome drink? (i.e. proper welcome drinks or only "mocktails"?)

Do you have, by any chance, stayed at the Sofitel Saigon Plaza too and can compare (location not being an important factor)?

Location of the Pullman is close to our Vietnam office. So I haven't stayed in the sofitel.
For the drinks I was offered, juices, cocktails, mocktails, Softdrinks or beer. I don't drink so I took a mocktail.

yeah, the Pullman is now better located than the Sofitel, 5 min walk from Ben Thanh market and always plenty of taxis parking in front

the lounge is amazing btw

I spend approx 70% of my stays in pullmans. My opinion is that they are much better incorporated into the Accor ideology and understanding of LCAH compared to the other hotels (incl sofitels). Here in Asia I don't know of any pullman that doesn't have a lounge.
The other thing is that many of the Pullman managers swap into other pullman hotels. So you see them around and get to build a rapport with them if you stay frequently.

My only suggestion: stay away from the Pullman Skyway in Shanghai (and stay in the sofitel hyland instead).

I used to have lots of stays with Mercure and Sofitel, now i'm also considering Pullman when there is one available in my destinations :)

not a huge fan of Mgallery (overpriced for what we get)

While checking out today, overheard a guy complaining to the lounge staff that there wasn't enough water in the room and hence he had to drink the evian from the fridge. He wasn't trying not to pay for the evian, but kept going on and on about how the hotel should be providing more water and that "us Americans drink at least 6 bottles a day". I looked at him and asked "it didn't occur to you to call housekeeping"... He didnt respond as the manager on duty was there and quipped in "it's ok we will not charge for your evian"... Ummm.. Hellooooo!

enzo0511 Jan 23, 2015 8:30 am

some guests are really annoying

staying at upscale properties to bother the staff with such insignificant details

especially there, you can get all the drinks you want at the lounge, or simply by calling housekeeping

i also saw one at Sofitel in Hanoi, always complaining about stupid stuff just for $2

Excellent report bro! This would put Grand Angkasa Hotel and Novotel Palembang into Wall of Shame. :p

Sofitel is old brand within Accor; so sometimes most of the staffs have less understanding to the new LCAH. Meanwhile, Pullman is a baby brand that was born during the revampment of new LCAH. Even in old LCAH benefits, Pullman was included so most of their staffs tend to have better understanding in term of LCAH benefits either the old LCAH and the new one. ^

This explaining why my last stay in Mercure Jakarta Sabang (2 weeks ago) where the Front Office saying that Platinum benefits not applicable in Mercure; it only applicable in Sofitel, Pullman, MGallery. Wow, a year have passed and he even didn't know about it. :td:

Have a stay coming up here and booked two rooms. Emailed them and requested for early check in, no problems. Then was given two options as a platinum:

Option 01: 01 room complimentary upgrade up one level (Executive room – subject to room availability upon check-in) and free access to the Executive Lounge.

OR

·........ Option 02: 02 rooms free upgrade up one level (Executive room – subject to room availability upon check-in), but the access to the Executive Lounge is not included.

Thought it was interesting enough to share...

Free access for everyone on the booking? Or free access for those in the upgraded room but not the others?

For those in the booking (anyway, 2 rooms booked with single occupancy)
