thanks for the excellent report. This hotel also had a good day rate, something like from 8am to 6pm which is very useful for transit.

Just an quick update. Got my pre-arrival email. I welcome new feature is 24 hour room access. Basically you get 24 hours from the time you check in. This is great feature and means you no longer have to pay for late check out etc.

Just to add a data point: As A+ Platinum, I booked this hotel for a night using my free night (Stay+ benefit).

I booked the lowest category double or twin and received a junior suite king. The welcome present was a huge fruit basket as well as another plate of sweet/savory snacks. I was able to make use of the free lounge access and the welcome drink voucher (good at any bar) as well.

The rooms are starting to look ever so slightly tired, but I was impressed by the excellent status recognition (keeping in mind this is a Novotel and I was using a free night).

I spent one night at the Novotel BKK airport. Stay was short as I arrived from REP around 10 pm and was leaving to CDG the following morning at 11 am. This place is unbeatable for its location when you are in this situation (no time to go downtown), but as usual, you pay a premium for this. My last stay there was a couple of years ago. Still a good property. Staff is still not super friendly, but my minimum expectations were met and this time I didn't encounter any issue.

I was contacted a few days before to enquire about my expected arrival time, any special wished and to propose me the baggage claim pickup/assistance. This is an exclusive Platinum benefit. They wait for you at the baggage claim and take care of your luggages and drive you to the hotel. I checked in at the lounge. The welcome letter is reproduced below. Another Plat benefit is 10% off at the restaurants.

I was upgraded from Superior/King to Junior suite. Drink voucher valid for soft drinks, beer, wine.

This hotel has a 24hr-stay policy, which can be very convenient in an airport hotel.

The junior suite was large and nice. A big fruit platter which I didn’t touch knowing my very short stay. The bed was very comfortable.

I had BF in the lounge which was deserted. Nice offering, cold and warm.

Rapid check-out at the lounge and I took the underground corridor to reach the terminal and the AF counters for my looonng flight to CDG.

Overall a good very short stay in a very convenient property when you are between 2 flights at BKK.

You pay a premium, no kidding. There is a lack of hotels very close to BKK and Novotel takes taking full advantage the situation. Only there is one key difference between BKK and airports in many other countries: taxis are very cheap. Novotel BKK is so overpriced that even if you consider the cost of a taxi round-trip, you will usually be able to get a much nicer hotel downtown for cheaper even if you count the cost of the taxi. So then it comes down to time wasted in the taxi and whether you will arrive/leave during rush hour which would be the difference between being 1 hour in traffic or a smooth 30-minute ride. For a 10 hour layover then Novotel is fine, but if I have anything more than 16 hours I will go enjoy my time downtown, which is not something I would do in many other cities where the hotels near the airport might be nicer than Novotel, might not be as overpriced as Novotel BKK, or where taxis are expensive.

That said, I could fully understand if someone did not care about any of this and just wanted to rest at Novotel ASAP and avoid the taxi ride at all costs.

One middle ground alternative is Le Meridien BKK which is not nearly as close to the airport as Novotel, but it's not downtown either. LM is much cheaper and much nicer than Novotel. It's on a golf course so it feels like a relaxing resort rather than a busy city hotel.

Expensive, But Convenient

Expensive, But Convenient (1 Photo)

Novotel Bangkok Airport

The hotel is much pricier than hotels in the area surrounding the airport. However, it can command such a high premium because the property is connected to the airport by underground walkway. We had approximately 10 hours between flights, and were tired, so with a decent rate this was perfect for us. If you're willing to pay a little bit more for the convenience, it's a nice facility.

Check In

Two days prior to our arrival, I received an email indicating that the hotel had arranged for my room key to be available for pickup at the business center. This ended up being a blessing.

We arrived to BKK at 10pm, with a plan to return to the hotel by 6am the following morning. When we walked down the walkway and entered the hotel, a large group of flight attendants was check in at the front desk. However, the business center was empty, and we were able to get checked in with ease.

Room

We had reserved a base room, and it was more than sufficient for our needs. I do not have status with Le Club Accor, but had reserved directly from the hotel website. We were exhausted, so the only photo I have is of the coffee maker.

I wouldn't call anything about the room high-quality, but everything was clean and in good condition. There were four reusable water bottles (two in the main room, two in the bathroom) and a good selection of tea. The bathroom had toiletries, and everything was adequate for our purpose.

Dining

Shortly after arriving to our room, the hotel sent up a cheesecake to celebrate our special occasion. It was good, though I don't have any photographs. The hotel boasts many restaurants, but they are not open overnight.

Location

The location is why we booked this place, and why I suspect you will too. From the airport, you can take an escalator to the basement. There is a cool and dry underground walkway that connects the hotel to the airport, and when you're tired, it is a blessing.

Expensive, But Convenient

No, thank you.

And if you are too tired or just don't want to do the 10 minute walk you can get a free ride. Just look for the Novetel peeps around pillar 4 when you exit the baggage area.

Novotel Sumvarnabhumi Airport BKK

Any update remarks/reviews regarding this Novotel? Last reviews seem to be from Nov 2019. Reviews on Trip Advisor are not that positive towards the hotel.

I will be staying in October for one night, but do not want to use points if this hotel is not up to par. Lots of negative comments about tired rooms and needed updates.

I stayed here the other week for the first time. I arrived at 830pm and was on another flight at 7am.

the hotel is tired but I was upgraded from the basic room to a suite.

the room was huge, bed comfortable and service really good from welcoming me at the luggage belt in the airport to being dropped off etc.

I didn’t eat there as I just wanted a shower and go to bed and the flight the next morning was early, but for a quick stay it was perfectly fine.

I have had a couple of recent stays here. As Accor Gold, I have been met at the BKK luggage belt and escorted to their hotel shuttle bus. I agree with PabloM’s assessment, although I have never been upgraded to a suite. I commented further on a recent stay here:

To clarify, Gold members do not get lounge access.
