Just stayed here on a first time on a holiday/leisure visit to Shanghai. For a first timer staying solo I was very happy with the location, walking distance to both East Nanjing St and People's Square subway stations (which will take you to all the major sightseeing spots easily, with direct access to airports if you wish!), walking distance to The Bund and plenty of shopping and eats close by. Yes the crowds can be quite intense, and yes there are hawkers (easily ignored) but if it's your first time it's a safe choice!

This hotel flips to Radisson in two or three weeks. I asked about them honoring bookings with ALL status after the flip as it's still being sold as Sofitel even after they flip and they refused (also refused a refund, so credit chargeback it goes), FYI for anyone considering booking here.
