Avoid Motel 6 GROSS!
I stayed at a Motel 6 in East Brunswick,NJ last week..and it was FILTHY..I did it to save a few bucks and it just made me sick!..The Bedspread was Wet with an "unkwown" liquid, the carpet had stains on it,and it smelled terrible..Motel 6 does not have irons in the room (have to sign it out and leave photo i.d.) or ironing board..no shampoo..no pictures on the wall..The blanket on both beds had "Stains" on them..and the lighting is all very bright white lights that make the place look like a "physc ward'..This is all my humble opinion..All I ask for is the place to be clean..and this is just GROSS!..I wrote a complaint to Motel 6 via thier website and asked for a refund, instead they claim to be sending me a voucher for a free night at Motel 6..any other hotel would refund your money if your not satisfied..Aviod Motel 6 if you can..Ps..I stayed at this same location years ago and it was just as dirty as before..

Not all Motel 6s are dumps.
Motel 6, though, does have a consistency issue. A visit to Tripadvisor is necessary for me before staying at one. |
Not all Motel 6 properties are gross. I recently paid $50 for a Motel 6 in Auburn, California. A clean property, exceptional service, and a decent sized room in the hills east of Sacramento.. when other area motels were priced closer to $100.
The title could/should be switched to reflect the specific property you had a bad experience at. |

I've stayed at a few Motel 6 properties in the past year and have been reasonably happy with all. It's an obvious budget tradeoff. You're not getting large rooms, nice decor, or lots of amenities, but when it's priced 1/3 less than the nearest competition and all you really want is a place to sleep for 8 hours before grabbing a shower and hitting the road again, it works well. Sometimes it works out even better than that, such as with the Motel 6 I stayed at near Joshua Tree that has a nice outdoor hot tub. Pretty sweet for about $45/night.
