Status Points When Stay Paid For With Points

Sorry if this is a common question. I'm new to Accor and couldn't find the answer from searching the board.

If the hotel costs $1000, and I use my ALL reward points to cover $400 of the charge, will I get the status points based on $1000 or $600?

Thanks.

Status and reward points are only based on actual new spend, so in this case it will be based on $600.

Actually it's a little more complicated than $600.

Let's say the GST/VAT is 10% on your $1000 room.
Your net room rate for Accor is $909 (after tax).

Points are then applied on rate first, tax second.
Using $400 on $909 will leave $509 eligible for status points.

How it worked with taxes was my follow-up advanced question! Thanks all for confirming.

That will depend on where the OP is staying. In many jurisdictions, the VAT could be included in the published room rate. In others, like North America, that $1,000 room rate would typically be the pre-tax rate, and all charges like GST, resort fees, tourist taxes and local taxes are extra. Those taxes added on top of the base room rate never earn points, no matter how you pay for the stay (officially, but I've seen the occasional mistake where the hotel screws up). Using your example where VAT is included in the $1,000, even if not paying with points, he'd only be earning points on $909 in spend. However the rate breaks down, your points earned on the stay will be reduced by the value of points applied.

Let's say the total cost is 1000$ including 100$ of taxes. You pay in points for an equivalent of 400$. You will earn points on 500$ (they apply the taxes on the cash paid part).
