New expiration extension is coming?
I called Accor regarding point expiration, and was told by a rep (in Canada) that a new extension is coming, but no info when. The rep was assuring me that it was coming. Anyone can confirm or deny it?

Current expiration for elites is set to expire on 4/30/21. If there is no extension and points are lost due to no fault of a member, I will be using third party sites instead of booking directly if I`d want to stay at ALL hotels. Not extending points will be not a clever decision and a loss at a long run.

Purchase of points won`t extend expiration, only hotel stay or restaurant spent does extend points. In the US,there are only about seven or so restaurants and Accor hotels are not that common either. The rep also mentioned "credit card" is coming soon after I said that earning ALL points was not that easy as other hotel points.

Book now using points and cancel later?
Pushing this further, I wonder whether I could book a flexible cancellation rate and then cancel and get my points back if I really need to cancel or change my booking.
Good to know that some have been told that an extension is on the way as Accor hasn't responded to my query nor are there any FAQs about this. Thanks!

Thanks but I'm not sure that it works. Having the points re-credited back to your account after cancellation does not seem to "generate activity" as far as points validity is concerned. So my question was more about whether using up all the points in future bookings past expiration date is okay and Accor won't invalidate your bookings for some reason.
(Data point for others in the same situation): I made 4 different points pre-paid bookings in 2020 and unfortunately all had to cancel due to COVID. When the points were deposited back into my account, the points expiration date did not change.

This may be clutching at a straw or empty air. Here is my plan.
I am going to book a totally cancellable rate as far out as I can to use the maximum amount of points I have.
Make a second booking before the first booking when I can travel. Stay there. Get points ( as paid in cash )
Cancel first booking. Get points back.
No idea if this will work.

Is there any cheap Ibises nearby ?
I understand ALL North American members did have limited options for this mattress/point run.
As for me, I did have plenty of budget option if I would like to extend ALL my points with $15/night Ibises

For info, I transferred FlyingBlue points (Air France / KLM) into my Accor account in February to see if it would extend the validity date. Even though it was not a hotel stay or restaurant spend, it did trigger the 12 months until expiry (so now Feb 2022 expiry).
I got my FlyingBlue points through business travel so I'm not worried about whether I'm getting the best value for my FlyingBlue points. Head for Points has reported that the hotel stay or restaurant spend requirement has been relaxed and partner activity will stop points expiring at the moment.

From what I can see in my profile, completing a Club Opinions survey changes the expiration date.
Of course, if it is available in your country and you qualify for any of the surveys.
