Get Accor Status for 2+ Years with Stays in 2020H2
Received by e-mail:
"Roll-Over Status Nights / Points: ALL status nights and points earned between July 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020 will be rolled over to jump start your elite qualification on January 1, 2021, allowing you to earn elite status faster in the 2022 program year."
Many hotel chains have extended status to 2021 which is nice, but that removes further benefits to stay with those chains for the rest of 2020. Accor's offer above gives the incentive to tilt the scales in their favor in the 2nd half of this year. Smart move I think.
Anybody who is currently Platinum not only got partial credit to achieve Diamond easier between now and the rest of the year (unlike other hotel chains), but in addition even if you start from scratch, if you spend enough (10,400 EUR) in 2020H2 then you get Diamond status for the remainder of 2020, and all of 2021-2022.

Overall, while the cancellation policy of Accor for the Covid situation was (and is still) a real shame, the loyalty part was very well handled IMHO. The policy for status extension, roll over, points expiry, etc is an excellent one.

While I wish it was different, I can handle the clunky covid cancellation policy, in fact most hotels I dealt with have been more than accommodating and went above and beyond the Accor corporate rules so I have nothing to complain about. However for loyalty of the program, individual hotels cannot do anything and it's entirely up to Accor. I would rank them #1 of all my hotel chains in the covid situation.

According to Loyalty Lobby, who clarified with ALL, you can double-dip by taking advantage of the gifted nights to shoot for a status upgrade during the remainder of 2020 and keep your H2 nights to renew or further upgrade your status during 2021. That way you don't feel like you've "lost" your H1 status nights. Quite pleased with this policy and wish the other hotel programs would copy it.

Well I guess we are all in different situations, but personally whether I found out about status extension in March or in May did not make much of a difference. Bottom line is that status is extended after all, the exact timing of when I am informed of this fact had less importance except perhaps some stays here and there at the margin (April), most stays in the future could be refunded anyway if somehow status extensions had changed my stay preferences between hotel chains. I did not feel penalized by Accor that they were last to announce.

Would it alternatively make sense to hit 59 nights at the end of June and then do the remaining 1 night to reach Platinum say July 1st?
Thanks!

The way I understand it is that you have two overlapping status qualifying periods:
1.1.2020 - 31.12.2020 - whatever status you achieve in this period is valid until 31.12.2021
1.7.2020 - 31.12.2021 - whatever status you achieve in this period is valid until 31.12.2022
1.1.2020 - 31.12.2020 - whatever status you achieve in this period is valid until 31.12.2021
1.7.2020 - 31.12.2021 - whatever status you achieve in this period is valid until 31.12.2022

I don't see any reference to getting free status through to 2022.
My take is:
1.1.2020 - 31.12.2020 - whatever status you currently hold (or achieve, if higher) in this period is valid until 31.12.2021
1.7.2020 - 31.12.2020 - whatever nights you accumulated in this period are carried forward to 2021 (to achieve status in 2022).
Say you are currently Gold had 14 nights in H1 2020, and was gifted 15 nights. You now have 39 nights which normally wouldn't requalify for Gold but your status had been extended till Dec 31 2021. If you stay 31 nights July-December you will be upgraded to Platinum. In 2021, you will start the year with those 31 nights carried over helping you renew Platinum more easily.

I think the roll over policy is great. I also hope other chains copy them
As it encourage member to continue stay with them instead of shopping around..
I do have plan to stay at some Raffleses after July.
Hoping Raffles Bali opened by then.
Dont think will have enough status point to get myself diamond though.

Not directly, no, but it ends out working out that way. Let's say you are a new customer and start from scratch, if you spend 10,400 EUR during July 2020 on a long and expensive stay then you will get Diamond for the rest of 2020, you qualify for Diamond in 2021 via your stay in July 2020, and they will carry over your spend to 2021 which means status in 2022 as well.
So the spend and nights of July-Dec 2020 end up counting for both 2021 status and 2022 status... as R2 illustrated well with his example I think.

Also, some checking around and a handful of people talking about being given status again who had it expired years ago: https://insideflyer.co.uk/2020/05/ha...r-account-now/

Really find that policy nonsensical, and seems completely arbitrary to start in July-- so anyone who earned status since January pretty much gets screwed.

If this rollover start in January, then these "free" points/night might be counted by Accor amazing IT system.
