Pullman Bordeaux Lac
Pullman Bordeaux Lac is not located downtown Bordeaux, but not far, north adjacent to the convention center and along a lake, as its name indicates. It is a quiet zone with many Accor properties (Novotel and Mercure just feet away). The hotel building is not so nice as you can see on the above picture, but inside is OK. Not the best Pullman in term of design as some things show a bit their age, but it is still very decent and they have started some renovation.
You can reach downtown very easily using the tramway which stops right at the foot at the hotel and for only €1.5.
The tramway stop and the lake from my room on the 4th floor
The nearby Novotel
The hotel a an outdoor swimming pool, but unfortunately the weather was not so good during my stay, so no wish to use it !
Check In
I was very kindly welcome by a very professional attendant who was proud to give me all details about the hotels as well as excellent recommendations for visiting the splendid city of Bordeaux and the best restaurants in town.
I was given the drink voucher and was told that I was upgraded to a junior suite (from a superior room, so this corresponds to a nice double upgrade). I was told that the minibar would be free (it contained only water and soft drinks, but certainly a nice benefit not so frequent at Pullman).
Late check-out at 4pm was granted without problem.
The lobby :
Room
The junior suite was composed of:
- an entrance area where you can easily place your luggage
- a living room with a sofa bed
- the bedroom
- the bathroom with a bathtub
- separate toilets
the living room decorations certainly a bit minimalist and lack a bit of warmth. The bed was very comfortable. Zero noise from inside or outside, despite the room being located very close to the lifts. Bathroom products were Bigelow.
VIP treatment was a bottle of wine. Of course we are in Bordeaux !
Dining
The bar and restaurant :
I had a very good dinner at the restaurant and I used my drink voucher there for a glass of good Bordeaux wine (of course !). Breakfast buffet was good with a large selection of cold items (cheese, smoked salmon, smoked ham, Coppa, dry sausage, fresh fruits, fruit salad, cereals, yoghurts, etc) and a the regular warm ones (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes) + of course the typical French morning pastries (croissants, chocolate bread, etc) and the famous delicious cannelés of Bordeaux.
Service
Minibar was replenished daily. There was an evening turndown service but no water or chocolates was provided at that time (but you have the water from the minibar).
Overall
Overall a very good stay, in a still very decent hotel (despite a need for some renovation but nothing disturbing or shocking). Excellent Platinum treatment at this hotel. Very good staff. A good alternative to a real downtown stay as you can reach downtown in 15 min max with the tramway.

At a Pullman/Sofitel flaws are what stand out, as one expects a stay to be just perfect, for the price charged.
A photo with a bottle left idle on a rather large table... "Has room service forgotten to tide up the room ?" - This was my line of thought. I second starflyergold's opinion.
On the other hand, at Ibis Styles AMS Central Station, on a one-night stay, I found a bottle, two nice wine cups and a card, properly presented. If an Ibis Styles can do it right, I do not expect the need to start from basics to a Pullman.
Can't the GM at a Pullman/Sofitel, themselves or someone they defer to, have a better welcome gift/card prepared for their best customers ?
IMHO, these are not first world issues, instead a proper way of welcoming a valued guest.
PS - How is the VIP guest expected to drink the Bordeaux ?
a)Paper cups b) Large glasses used in the bathroom c)High tall glasses from bar, for water/sodas ? d)directly from the bottle
Confused...

Regarding the paper coffee cups, this is something I forgot to mention in my review because I thought indeed that in a suite in Pullman, you expect real cups.
For the wine glasses, you are completely correct and I didn't realize that when I was there because I had no intention to drink an entire bottle of wine just by myself do did not open it and bring it back with me.
Some Ibis do provide good quality cups, and some Pullman do not ! No logic.
However, the bar starts to shut at 11pm as people arrive back from dinner. There is a cheap place out the front door to the right (joined to the IBIS) that is convenient to eat in but I would recommend going into town every night.
Gt off at the stop with the semicircle of lovely buildings and a big fountain opposite the water (not sure of the name) and then ho up the street at "one o'clock" for a range of restaurants. Great steaks in Bordeaux.
