Booking Changes

Hi All,
If I were to cancel a booking that was booked at a low rate, and then re-book to take advantage of the current 4XPoints offer, will my previously booked rate be released back online?

No (extremely unlikely). When you want to do that, you first have to make sure that your original booking is cancellable without fees and, if yes, you do 1st your new booking and then you cancel the original one.

Thanks Goldorak. Yeah, I thought as much. That's generally the way I do it when promotions come out after I have booked. Its just that in this instance, there is a huge difference in price. I was told at check in that this is for the Gold/Platinum availability guarantee.
I've just checked in to the Mercure in question, so might try and sweet talk them when I head out for dinner.
