Mercure Lourdes Imperial
There are only 2 hotels in Lourdes that belong to the Accor group, the Mercure and Ibis. Location wise, Mercure is the best as it was the nearest to the Grotto comapred to the Ibis which was quite a walk away. Thus, we settled for the Mercure. I noticed that alot of the hotels in Lourdes were rather old and no mordern hotel really was there. So I kept my expectation to the bare minimal. However to my surprise, the Mercure was recently renovated, you can see that the TV very mordern compared to the furniture.
Check In
We arrived at the hotel around 6+pm for our 2 night stay. As there were only 2 category of rooms in the whole hotel, standard and junior suite, I was hoping to get upgraded to the suite as I booked the standard room. However, upon checking in they did not upgrade me as they said both suite were taken already (there were only 2 suites in the hotel). I quickly whipped out my phone to check the website to see if it was true as I was sure that before I left paris, there was avaliability of the suite. Indeed there was as the suites could still be booked but the hotel still claimed that that it was taken and then offered us courtesy points, which I then accepted. (I found out it was only 250 points)
Room
The hotel gave us a room on the 6th floor (room 604) which was supposedly their highest floor as the roof was a terrace with magnificent views over the river and moutain range. Our room had magnificent views of the river and partial mountain range. The room was niether big nor small and the toilet even had traditional bidet.
The one thing I did not like was that the hotel deactivated the Air-Con since it was spring and it was cooling. Don't mind me, yes its cold at night and it can hit single digits. But in the day it can go up to 20+ degrees and air-con would be useful then. So that was 1 thing that bugged me throughout my stay.
Dining
The most amazing part of bar experice I had was the usage of my welcome drink voucher. As I presented it, I asked what I could choose from and the lady said "Anything you want from the menu" which made me have the biggest smile on my face yet. Hmmm anything at all huh, well after going through the menu over and over, I settled for a glass of Champagne. "Dang I should have tried my luck and ask for a Blue label :)
Breakfast was included in our rate and the selection was fairly alright. Quality standards were average to good but nothing can beat the Pullman CDG buffet when comapring to France standards. Spot the champagne glass if you can, I even brought it down to breakfast because why not, I'm on holiday in France.
One thing I particularly like about the buffet here was that the orange juice here was FRESHLY squeezed.
Amenities
As I have stated above, there is a terrace at the roof of the hotel which offered magnificent views of Lourdes. I didn't take much pictures and I was admiring the views but trust me, in real life, the view is amazing. The air is so clean and visibilty so clear that you can see the mountain ranges far away with the snow covered peaks. This was the cleanest air I have breathe in France so far :)
Location
For people coming to Lourdes to visit the Lourdes Sanctuary, the location is fairly good as it was only a 5 min walk away from the enterance and with the hotel located next to the river, there were many restaurant located near by.
Overall
Overall, I did enjoy my stay even though the hotel was not as modern as the ones I am used too going for. If you are heading to Lourdes, I would definetly reccomend the hotel.
Too bad they didn't upgrade you to the suite but kudos for the Champagne with the drink voucher. This is pretty unique at Mercure, even in France
