Sorry to hear of your booking having been cancelled, and at the same time not sorry to see the Sofitel go. It was not on par with the brand's current standard, and frankly very little could have been done to a property carved out of an older office building. The only saving grace was the location, if somebody really wanted to be almost right on the market square, but I find the Mercure and Ibis Styles to provide similarly good locations for sightseeing without the added cost of being a pretend Sofitel, and for luxury afficionados, there is a new MGallery in town.

Hotel Grand Sukhumvit Bangkok

Not 100% sure it was still managed by Accor but Hotel Grand Sukhumvit Bangkok, is moving to Crowne Plaza and will undergo a complete renovation and extension.

Refurbish to become a Crowne Plaza? I guess this is only to break up the suites to boost room count, but otherwise it makes about as much as sense as dressing up to mop the floor...

I'm a little surprised about the Art Series Fantauzzo leaving, since I believe it only opened last year? I realise that the hotel has been sold, but was the operating lease up as well? I note there is an AFR article on it, but its behind a paywall.

Buyer: Syrian billionaire Ghassan Aboud, owner of the Crystalbrook Collection portfolio. Accor’s Art Series Group property in Brisbane – the Fantauzzo – will rebrand under a new operating name after the hotel was acquired.

Wow, that's quite a loss to Accor's presence in NYC, especially in the mid priced segment.

Elements of Byron Mgallery by Sofitel has just left. It’s in Byron Bay Australia and was an awesome resort.
