You can try Pullman as my last 3 nights stay at The Royal Beach Seminyak are horrible.

Really? How horrible it was? Perhaps you might tell me because my friend is planning to stay there, probably I will issue travel warning to him. :p

@Mynameismud:

Below the accor properties that you should consider:

Pullman Legian:
Positives:
- brand new
- infinity pool
- staffs are friendly
- across the beach

Negatives:
- there's still ongoing construction, so probably you might feel empty or something
- night club in the hotel, you can request not to be next to the night club

Novotel Nusa Dua:
Positives:
- Beautiful private beach, honestly. ^
- There's also two or three bedroom suite, so you might find it helpful for your family, private jacuzzi and some has private pool. ;)
- Feels like new

Negatives:
- you should try email to [email protected], probably the worst responding that I've encountered
- Quite far to main attractions since it's located in Nusa Dua

All Seasons Legian:
Positives:
- Good Value; You don't have to break your bank
- Location wise, near to Legian Beach
- Staffs are very good

Negatives:
- small-average room size, All Seasons standard

Other properties:
Novotel Benoa: good reviews on Tripadvisor

Less-recommended:
- Mercure Kuta (old resort)
- Mercure Sanur (old resort, but room is quite spacious)
- Royal Beach Seminyak (old hotel, and the price is extravagant)

i will also check reviews about Novotel Bali Benoa

Please give a short review after your stay. I'm also considering between the Pullman and Royal Beach. My stay is not until October though.

My understanding is that with AClub Gold or Platinum, you can request for a room upgrade only at these two hotels? It doesn't apply to Novotel, right?

Right, you can request at Novotel but the programme does not provide any perks at there, other than the Platinum bonus.

Absolutely. Since you could only ask room upgrade in Sofitel, Pullman, and MGallery (Royal Beach Seminyak is MGallery hotel) so you could only ask on those properties.

@Pullman: probably the best bet that you could get is upgrade from Deluxe to Deluxe Ocean View Room since their suite hasn't completed yet.

@Royal Beach: never try this one, since the price is getting more expensive and it's getting old, so probably not my type.

By the way, you might try to book 2 bedroom suite in Novotel Nusa Dua. My friend stayed here 2 weeks ago with her family. She booked 2 bedroom suite without pool, then got upgraded 3 level up (noted that she's just joined A-Club) into 3 Bedroom suite with private pool !!! But when I tried to book, I e-mailed them, no reply after 3 weeks, I called them that I would like to get upgrade using complimentary room upgrade certificate (from Adv. Plus program), they just said that it cannot be guaranteed and can only be confirmed 24-48 hours before departure  I think Novotel Nusa Dua keen to provide extra services for potential customers and not for loyal customers. I booked their neighbor instead, Courtyard by Marriott Nusa Dua :p

Back from Bali:

Mrs Mud and i spent 3 nights in Mercure Sanur and i confirm this resort is Old...Our room was a basic one and i don't think it was especially spacious.
After a having a shower it was like having your own swimming pool...:td:

We also spent one night in Novotel Benoa and although it is not a brand new hotel it feels much more recent than Mercure Sanur.

I felt sorry about that. :( Yeah, the resort is dated and the location is quite far from other attractions. I will stay on Pullman Legian on next month, and I would report it after that, for your next visit to Bali. :)

,
Novotel nusa dua is very good but.....Beech is short bus ride from hotel, it is lovely once there and next door is the St Regis. 2 bed suites are great but avoid lower floor and those with pools. No sun and lots of insects despite good effort by the hotel.
Do not book the penthouses that are owned.... Charlatans in my experience. Book with hotel it may cost more, often it does not and you will be treated well. Breakfast is expensive, pool lovely staff good. Spa is great.
Evening meals seem to be buffet but nearby are some great places to eat cheaper and good quality. Internet access is free in lobby and extortionate in rooms.

I'm between the royal beach (accor platinum status) and the Stones Legion (Marriott platinum status) and the Haven.

does anyone have any experience with the royal beach Seminyak and it's upgrades?

I like the location on the beach, but have read some bad reviews.

The marriott stones is brand new and I booked it awhile ago (on a cancelable rate). I have a friend that highly recommended the Haven, but it seems to be so far away!

As far as I know Royal Seminyak is a bit run down. I do not think it has been refurbished (I may be wrong).

I stayed at the Stones last May and they upgrade me to pool view room and threw me a free breakfast in exchange of no club access. The hotel is nice. I will go back again in 3 weeks time.

I have some photos of it which I should post it into my blog, but I have not got time to do it.

I do not have any idea about Haven. The picture looks nice but seem a bit away from sea.

Updated: I just updated my blog on the Stones, you may want to take a look. If it has to be Accor, go to the Sofitel Nusa Dua. It is brand new hotel and stunning also.

I stayed at the new Sofitel in Nusa Dua. If you're willing to stay in a more quiet part of Bali, I would check this out.

The property is gorgeous, and when I was there in August, they were almost done with Nikke Beach, which will be connected to the hotel. Also, the beach was one of the cleanest I've seen in Bali (aside from some seaweed) and is protected by some type of rock formation to break the surf... Great for swimming!

As a Plat, I received upgrade to pool access room and club access. Also had choice of breakfast in the restaurant which had a great variety and some really quality choices. PM me if you'd like more details.

Can share the pic?

I am kind of "force" to stay there end of this month for a month :(

Just make sure they haven't closed 3/4 of the resort for a private wedding!! I was at the Sofitel a few weeks back, and it is beautiful, except they had most of the resort closed for normal guests because of a wedding that was there over a few days. I was pretty disappointed and it left all of the non-wedding guests feeling like we weren't welcome in the resort.
