Not intended stay but the maximum possible stay. So, for example, Italy allows Canadian tourists to stay for 90 days without a visa. So Johnny Canuck might go for a 2 week vacation, fall in love with a babe in Tuscany, and decide to stay for a couple of months instead. No problem, unless his passport expires before they start to argue, and eventually break up.
