TSA does check passports, and if necessary by their procedures, will inspect visas inside your passport (even if pages are paper clipped so that its not easily seen). I have personally seen individuals illegally present in the United States be detected by TSA and be handed over to CBP officers.
To be honest with you, and I mean no offense, I hope TSA does catch these travelers, and that they are subject to the penalties required for their illegal actions.
I'm sorry, but my wife immigrated to the US by following all of the laws. In doing so, we were kept apart, and suffered. Through it all, we did it legally.
