Finally, an SPG property in Asheville, NC. It re-opened 2 weekend ago as Four Points (Cat 2).

I redeemed a one-night stay this weekend to check it out. Here are my initial thoughts and observations:

- rooms are clean but small. Furniture/fixtures are new.

- good location (across Rennaissance) and within walking distance of bars and restaurants.

- Free parking.

- As a Plat, I was given a room in SPG floor. But no real upgrade because I was told that all rooms are the same.

- one free bottle of water in the room.

- no free breakfast certificate (I asked).

- ice machine is only available at lobby level and you need your room key to operate the darn thing.

- Wifi was not working during my stay. When I told one of the staff that wifi wasn't working, he kept insisting that it should be working. When I said, "nope, it isn't working", he said, "must be broken or something". No real offer to fix or restart the router, instead, he pointed me to the lobby computer and told me to use that one.

- Staff needs some SPG training. I asked for a 4PM checkout and was initially denied and was told that the latest they could accommodate me was 1PM. I told them that it is a Plat benefit and she had to go to 2 people for confirmation.

- I checked my credit card this morning and found that this property charged $34.99 to my card. I have no idea was this is for as I did not receive a folio in the morning. I called the Plat line and got confirmation that it can't be tax. The Plat Concierge called the hotel but the person at the hotel couldn't even pull my folio and the Plat Concierge had to leave a message to the revenue manager. I can't wait to find out what that charge is for.
