Be glad you weren't stranded, like Maxjet (NYC<->LON) did to their customers this past New Year's holiday when they shut down without warning...
As for Pan-Am Clipper, I noticed their flights were getting smaller and smaller over the past several quarters... Never a good sign for an airline.
They had odd-ball airports for low cost. Another similar airline (that is doing well) is SkyBus -
