For me its a battery issue. The battery life on my phone or PDA was never long enough to play music and do other things I needed to do on a cross country flight.
I have a Palm Treo now and have a hard enough time keeping it charged for making phone calls. Maybe an extended battery would help that, but I really like how small the zune is and the cord isn't that big.
