It's been awhile, but let me dig into my university Criminology...
The same reason why people hijack buses, boats and other modes of transportation rather than a shopping mall.
Largely that you have a large number of people, confined into a small area that has limited means of ingress/egress (human capital) and the venue itself can also used to attempt a quick flight (no pun intended) from justice.
Why do you think D.B. Cooper didn't rob a bank?
