As we all know, the cockpit door is usually open when the plane is boarding... so things could spiral wildly out of control from there.
I'm perplexed about what benefit you perceive it to be for a perpetrator to make it airside to a gate/jetway/cockpit with said backpack, versus for example venturing into the landside arrivals area or customs preclearance hall?
